Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, I have learned.

I hear the project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.

I'd like to see some of the Robert Jordan novels adapted. I loved those back in the day.

Can we get Arnold in it as like Conan's Grandpa or something? They also need to have Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson in there somewhere.

Id like for them to do a series or film of:

Highlander series (8-10 episode season format TVMA) (starring James McAvoy and Iain Glen)

Beetlejuice series (Original cast as much as possible)

The Lost Boys limited series (same with original cast but RIP Haim, use de-aging on Kiefer since its now cannon David lived)

Back to the Future limited series (continuation, not a reboot)

A movie about a young Quint from Jaws

Maximum Overdrive film (Starring Chris Pratt and Giancarlo Esposito)

I'm pretty sure he means the Conan novels he penned, not the Wheel of Time that's being filmed right now by Amazon.

So they'll make 2 seasons and cancel it on a major cliffhanger like they've become big on doing.

One of the points in the article I linked to on why Conan is a good fit for Netflix is it should play well internationally, which is a big deal to Netflix. They also talk about having options on spin offs like animated shows. If they make a quality action series they'll probably let it run as long as it can to be the center of a Conan universe of shows.

Robert Howard wrote the Conan stories. Most were featured shorts in Weird Tales magazine. Only one was a "novel" and I'm not sure that it was published during his lifetime.

Robert Jordan wrote the Wheel of Time series.

Although it is a joke l, I do expect Netflix to frick this up royally. Conan is a Cimmerian, which means he's Nordic.

I also expect them downplay the testosterone aspect of the original film.

What they should do is call John Milius yesterday to advise the whole show. Yes, he's been sidelined by a stroke, but his mind is probably still sharp enough to do it.

He proved that you can feature black characters and women in a fantasy epic, yet still keep the tone fully masculine and badass.

I suspect Netflix will play up the female role much more than it needs to be. There will probably be a scene where she kicks Conan's arse when they first meet.

They also better not frick up the music but I know they will. Nothing can touch Poledouris' score, but they should at least use it as a base.

If it fails, no biggie. The 1982 masterpiece will always be around.

How about a trailer for old times sake. LINK

Conan vows to take the heads of ten Of his enemies to pay for the death of his friend, along with seven heads for the dog, who was "a better warrior than many a man".

Could be awesome

Juma is a bad arse black warrior king, friend of Conans. Went from nothing to king like Conan. Could be epic if done correctly. Don’t forget the Amazons kicked Conans arse, so they could do SJW crap and keep in line w books.

Robert Jordan also wrote a number of Conan novels in the 80s and 90s before the Wheel of Time.

I always liked his take on the character, and Jordan is a great world-builder. He created a lot of fun side characters, love interests, and villains in his version of the Hyborian Age - all the while staying true to Howard's creation.
