How is star wars not science fiction? I guess light sabers and the force are scientific facts

You brought up The Force. Well, that is a key element to the movies, and it's mysticism. Mysticism =/= science fiction.

Another key point is that it doesn't depend on science or technology as a main plot point. You could replace the space stuff with a bunch of pirate ships and you'd have the same movies. Science and space are not essential to the story.

Star Wars is mythology.

Pick up some Joseph Campbell. That's what I'm talking about.

And know about the col. Akbar thing without having someone tell ne like most "non star wars fans".

It's Admiral Akbar, and he's and extremely minor character.

District 9 is a good film, but its not a film I have much desire to see again. It is fairly disgusting, horrifying, and sad really

Plus the protagonist shows himself to be a complete moron through his actions and made himself (at least for me) hard to root for at the end of the film.

Like I said, I get the references... Not an expert, but people who aren't fans shouldn't know about "extremely minor" characters. Again, Im not challenging you're star wars wits. Just saying I know more about it than im interested in knowing.

Akbar has been inserted into popular culture for a few reasons.

I find your small minded mentality to be amusing.

Granted, the protagonist's stupidity is entirely exploited by the bad guys. I don't really have a problem with stupid protagonists as long as they don't have people following them and they are somewhat punished through their stupidity. District 9 does this. I just hate it when a character is rewarded for his stupidity (unless its a comedy of course).

Because our taste differs? Because I say I know get the jokes about it? Someone's small minded mentality and arrogance is showing... And it's not mine.

You shouldn't throw a Temper tantrum because someone doesn't like you're little fantasy movie.

Spoilers

I was more referencing his hijacking of the spaceship after KOing the one alien that was going to help him and in the process fricking him over as well.

Has nothing to do with taste.

Not that, either.

I'm not throwing a tantrum, dude.

You're small minded because you refuse to find out about why a series of movies became a phenomenon. You pigeonholed a series of movies into a particular genre and then made a determination about it based on that.

It's small minded to refuse to know more about something.

A series of movies? I have plenty of friends who love star wars and think half of the series is shite. Ive seen it, I didn't care for it. So yeah, it kind of is about taste.

And this would be true had I not watched it because I was turned off by the genre. Te fact is I've seen them and didn't care for it.

Fight Club

when you strip away the nonsense it amounts to a muddy homoerotic piece in which the writer shits on a plate and invites you to chow down

This is the small minded part that I'm referring to.

When someone claims to know more than they are interested in knowing about something, and the fact is that they really don't know much about that something at all, that implies that they're being small minded.

It's the attitude, not the taste, that's offensive.
