Forrest Gump is sad, but its not even close to being at the top. Jenny is a terrible person who for all we know may have lied to Forrest about that being his own son and knew that he would take care of her son. Yeah I feel bad for Forrest, but he's better off without her if you think about it.

A man is allowed to cry at any movie where:

1. A dog dies

2. An athlete is stricken with a fatal disease

that's it though

Bunch of pussies in here. I've never flat out cried for a movie. got a little teary eyed a couple times, but thats about it. Granted I've never seen Marley and Me and have GoTF downloaded, but still never watched it.

I really loved Saving Private Ryan. Maybe I just love war films but I thought it was awesome. It didn't make me cry though. At the end I felt as if it kind of jumped into slightly too sappy territory.

I guess I should extend my list.

Field of Dreams
Forrest Gump
Eternal Sunshine (depressing kind of crying)
Terminator 2
Fellowship of the Ring (yeah what of it? That scene at the end near the shore doesn't make you tear up?)
Return of the King (Grey Havens sequence pretty teary eyed for me)

I'm now interested in seeing Grave of the Fireflies.

3. A cybernetic organism lowers himself into molten steel after befriending a pubescent delinquent boy and teaching humanity about mortality

Killing a little girl usually evokes even more sympathy than that.

I think that's part of what his character was about. He really didn't need anyone or anything to make him better off. He did what he wanted to do in the moment and that actually makes him more free than anyone else in the movie, even though he was not as mentally capable as most. Forrest never got caught up in the things that most people got too wrapped up in. He just went out and lived.

It's not just Jenny that makes him sad though. He also lost his mom and Bubba.
