This is why I did not.

Well, I often pick movies based on what I think they will be about.
As an avid supporter and advocate of equal rights, I don't watch most of the civil rights movies because they bring me down. I want entertainment in movies.

I sort of get that City of God (which this board loves) vibe when reading and seeing the previews about Moonlight. That dark, gritty, inner-city slum full of struggle. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

City of God is my favorite movie ever.

I've seen Moonlight and it isn't close to as good of a film IMO.

Steel Magnolias I may never truly know if I should have watched those.

If you're a male, you're fine having missed them.
Meh, it's pretty good.

That's my point.

I'm a year behind, largely, on movies because I have little kids and don't get to the movies that much. But I will eventually try to see most, if not all of the Best Picture nominees. I think if you're a fan of movies, it's worth your time. Rarely are BP nominees just flat terrible, so it's normally a crop of well-made, interesting, mainstream films. Yeah, they could be more ambitious on the fringe and they could also be more crowd-pleasing on the other end, but I think Oscar nominees strike a pretty good balance.

I think the only film I'll skip is Manchester by the Sea, not due to quality, but because we had a health scare for my infant son, and I don't think I can watch a movie about family drama in the wake of a death. I'm just not emotionally prepared for that.

But I think skipping out on a movie because of some ideological blinders you have is sort of sad. I like films that challenge my preconceived notions or show me things about topics that I don't know much about. I'm excited to see Moonlight precisely because it is so alien to my own personal experience.

That's actually a really good movie.

I don't watch Diane Keaton movies because I know what I am going to get - 2 hrs of shrill over-acting.

Perfect Storm. Just looks like a two hour thunderstorm.

Brokeback Mountain bc I'm not interested in cowboys fricking each other.

I've never wanted to see the Shining. I've seen small parts of it and it just looks like a guy going crazy trying to axe his family. No interest.

San Andreas. Looks like a cheesy corny movie where Rock does superhuman feats to save people, likely his family, and escapes an earthquake just in time.

Spotlight was great.

Interstellar. People think its just another sci-fi pic and its more about relationships and keeping the connection.

Manchester by the Sea. Its not just another movie about Boston; its riveting in its intensity.

It's nothing like City of God. You see 1 gun in Moonlight and it's never fired. If I had to compare it to any movie it would be Boyhood. Moonlight is more intimate and dark in subject matter.

Babe 2: Pig in the City.

If you think it's just a rehash of the original Babe, you are in for a wild freaking ride.
