Mother's Mercy....I'm re-watching GOT

Actually my wife wanted to re-watch it. I told her I swore to the old gods and new gods I would not watch this series again but she is the true Lord Commander of my house although I have the title and acquiesced to her command.
To my surprise it's ok. I'm enjoying the re-watch and are focusing more on the secondary stories and those little nuggets I missed when the show was at peak performance.
As noble as the Starks are, they are incredibly stupid with the exception of Sansa and Arya. Those two were the survivors that made the most of their situation using the skills they had.
In fact stupidity is a recurring theme for most of the leaders in the show. Their ambition is so blinding they had no commons sense.
We are in season 6 and John Snow was just resurrected. I'm not sure if we will watch the final season. We probably will.
I will say one thing about GOT, there is nothing in movies or TV that compares to the battles in GOT. I know that LOR will be a big comparison but those battles were almost artist dance's whereas GOT battles were brutal and personal like they should be.
Ok..I've confessed

The first few seasons are still the same masterpieces they ever were, taken in a vacuum. It's just hard to get excited about them anymore taken in the context of the show as a whole, when you realize that 95% of the stuff that happened in them turned out to be meaningless.

There is 60+ hours of fantastic content.
Think he finished writing the books during Covid?

Your mother was a dumb whore with a fat arse, did you know that?

I did it again somewhat recently too. The last season/2 seasons catches the deserved criticism but it's still an incredible show. I'm in the minority but I loved the battle at winterfell vrs the white walkers.
This scene still gets me incredibly hype

He still hasn’t even gotten around to ordering the pizzas he promised to those two kids who showed up at his doorstep.

I get disagreed with but I still like the Long Night and think it’s a fantastic episode.
A lot of people don’t like Arya getting the kill over John but the night king had his chance for a fair fight on the battlefield and rose the dead and ran away like a bitch. He deserved to get killed by a little girl.

I have a feeling this series will be remembered more fondly by more people than would like to admit. Of course the last season plus had some weird arse shite in it that went completely against character for some main pieces, and honestly it did "ruin" the series a bit. But IMO there were still some pretty great (and really entertaining) things that happened during that span, and I think that those will stick out upon rewatch for a lot of people.
I'm not saying people will come away with it loving it and changing their minds or whatever, but those who rewatch it will remember it more fondly IMO.

1-4 are some of the best TV ever.

One thing I'll comment on is how very "heroic" Danny was. I'm at the point where she is about to light up the Dothroki leaders after escaping the assassination attempt at the games by riding Drogon for the first time.
I'm still annoyed at the way they did her heel turn so suddenly in the end. They could have set that up more progressively than they did.

quote:Same for me the first time I saw it. Then I rewatched the episode and realized how fricking strategically stupid it was to send the Dothraki to charge across an open field at an enemy they couldn't even see and give up any advantage the fortifications around Winterfell would've provided. If you hold the fort, you make the enemy come take it.

Visually this scene was cool as shite.
Quite possibly the dumbest decision in battle history though. If they knew the dead were out there just catapult with your fireballs until they’re expended, I think they launched one round?
Then let the dead charge and have the Dothraki horde way out on the sides in the trees to hit them from both sides.
It obviously wouldn’t have mattered, they’d still all get slaughtered. But better than that retarded charge into the pitch black a mile away from the castle.

Watch the final... It's far less infuriating the second time around
I've rewatched GoT 3 times... love the damn show

The show up till Dany came back to Westeros was A+.
The next couple of seasons were ok but noticably weaker.
The final season is the worst final season a great show has ever had.

They should have just skipped the final season. Why? Because the old fat bastard ain't going to finish his books.

Nope. And if he couldn't finish them while at home with nowhere to go then he's never going to.
