Salma Hayek's husband kind of looks like a Dollar-Store Daniel Craig.

Though I don't think they were ever married, Michelle Pfeifer and Fisher Stevens always made me shake my head.

I can explain Hugh Jackman. He is closeted gay. He married a beard to hide his sexuality when he started out in the entertainment industry.

Or he’s one of the few decent dudes in Hollywood who didn’t ditch his wife when he got famous.

ETA: It’s also worth noting Jackman lived a normal life before getting big. Dude was a PE teacher at one point and only acted as a hobby until he was into his late 20s.

Most marry people that are not as " attractive" as them because they have major insecurities

If a rich, successful, good looking guy has a fat or ugly wife it shows he's a man of character, because it would be trivially easy for him to upgrade to something way better.

If I understand their history his wife was somewhat famous in Australia before he was successful.

They could just be in love with the character to make their marriage work

I always had this theory about Roger Federer. Love that Larry backed me up

They also went through fertility issues, IVF, etc. and ended up adopting.

Stuff like IVF can be extremely hard on a marriage and can tend to either tear you down or grow your connection.

And let’s be honest, he’s big in theater and won a Tony before he even got big in movies. No one would’ve blinked if he came out as gay on Broadway. There’s really not a good reason for him to be closeted.

The first part is true. She was a fox at one time. But seriously it is not sainthood to stick with your wife if she puts on more than a few LBS. It shouldn't even be a decision point.

Agreed

But not on this part. It would still change the public perception and casting options. There's not the stigma today there was when Rock Hudson was famous but it still affects the perception of whether you are a leading male playing the part of a heterosexual man.

He's not unique in this sense. There are similar rumors about Tom Cruise and Dwayne Johnson.

Devils Advocate: he could be bisexual, a straight metrosexual, or a gay man who loves his wife and children

The amazing thing is that a wealthy woman like Salma Hayek still feels compelled to look for a partner with more money than she already has.
