Well the great fish did kill that sweet party girl.

And terrorized a town. And frightened an entire generation to never put a toe in the Ocean.

Ruined the mental psyche of many humans.

So, yes...based on cultural impact, I'd say Jaws is a pretty big villain for us humans.

How long do you want this to go on? Still have the round of 32, sweet 16. elite 8, final 4 and chip. The first round is always a little busy, it get's much easier as it goes on.

We've been doing these tournaments this same way for literal decades. It works just fine.

maybe i'm misunderstanding the entire frame of the tournament. all of the things you listed are what made the shark in jaws such a GREAT character and a great "villain" if you will. when you watch Jaws, do you sit there thinking about how much you hate the shark? when i watch gladiator, i HATE Commodus. when i watch the Green Mile, i HATE Percy. do you feel that way about the shark?

this list of "most hated characters" seems to be a weird mix of characters that people actually hated (Commodus, Percy, Rose, the warden from SR, Holdo, JarJar, Dolores Umbridge etc) and really good villains (Johnny Ringo, John Kreese, Hans Gruber, Voldemort, Kahn, Anton Chigur)

No you're understanding it correctly. But there probably are people that genuinely dislike the shark. I don't expect the shark to win this tournament , but I thought it was pretty funny that it even made it. I mean, as stated above, it did kind of cause a generation of people to not want to get into the ocean. That's probably more of an impact than any other character nominated.
