If the 20th Century was the "American Century," than the 90s was the decade of American exceptionalism. Two films that really hammered those themes home were Armageddon and Independence Day. Both disaster films, they really exuded the confidence of Americans at that particular point in time.

American Pie was the 2nd.

That was 1991, still not enough to be 90s. It was practically the 1980s still.
