If that is what they’re going for then it is a super weak story line. Midway into season two we’ve never even introduced “psychic powers“. Nor has Cate shown any remote extra sensory abilities of any kind. She just got drunk one night, strolled down to the Golden Gate Bridge and felt vibrations in the water from across the Pacific. Really?
How the hell are they going to connect her feeling what Titan X is feeling when it gets zapped by the Apex mind control device?
Was it just because she was standing close to it? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m sorry, but what the hell are those scarabs even? They seem to be in the hundreds, if not, thousands and deposited in the sand or underground all over the damn place. They can’t be offspring because they never seem to change size. They act like creepy minions to Titan X. Rarely attacking anyone directly. Doing the bidding of their host(?) and even removing a tentacle when needed.

I really liked this show, but it’s boring. Not sure what I’m expecting, I want to keep liking it but I’m tuning out constantly. Too contrived.

Exactly. Which tells me that the writers are phoning it in rather than taking the time to develop a good narrative.

Don’t forget…Godzilla looked her in the eye.
As insufferable as she is, I’m convinced I could fix her.

E8 - with all the news of Godzilla minus 0 & Legendary’s Supernova it’s easy to see why this got lost in the shuffle.
Seems like the writers are just throwing stuff up against the wall and see what sticks. Motivations and reasons have no part in this show. Nor does time and space, for that matter.
No explanation as to why Cate has a psychic connection to Titan X. She just does, because of girl power. May? She just bops around between Apex and Monarch super easily, barely an inconvenience. One minute she’s on a ship in the south Pacific, the next moment she’s at some undisclosed Monarch facility talking to her former Apex boss.
Because the nerdy guy on the ship apparently said “I’ll make the arrangements“. And voilà, the complications of traveling hundreds, if not thousands of miles nearly instantaneously have been tackled.
May gets an all access pass to some secret prison and freely gets to talk to a prisoner in a room with zero supervision.
Why would monarch trust her when she was the one that basically attempted to mind control a titan for a rival corporation? OK fine. Trust her enough to work with her a little bit but why give her all this gold star level access to everything? It makes zero sense.

Show continues to make no sense. Works better as it’s period piece from the Wyatt era. The acting talent of that era is just better.
And the mystifying use of Ana Sawai. They’re giving her nothing worth a damn. Such a jarring tonal switch of talent seeing her in Shogun t whatever the frick this character is supposed to be outside of annoying as frick. She must be getting paid a lot now for this shite.
Something tells me they’ll waste Amber Midthunder just as hard.

E9 - starts off surprisingly well.
Then it goes sideways with a silly marriage scene from 1958 that is as cringe & improbable as it is unnecessary.
Topped with more May nonsense girlsplaining to a soldier how whatever she says is more important because she’s been to skull island- once.

Kentaro has overtaken Cate as the dumbest, most annoying character ever. Holy frick. The Randa kids both suck arse.
The Bill/Keiko romance is just unbelievable. No real sexual chemistry. They honestly seem more like very platonic friends that decided to get hitched. Maybe an actor problem as the tension between Keiko and Lee has always been more organic.

My son is a HUGE Godzilla fan. The fact that he won't watch this show tells me all i need to know. He is looking forward to Godzilla Minus Zero, though.

Is it cheaper to use Kong instead of Godzilla because Kong will end up with a lot more screen time this season compared to Godzilla and it’s not even close.

Is it worth getting an AppleTV subscription for a month to watch season 2 or nah?
Posted on 4/26/26 at 12:55 pm to Upperdecker
Nah. I’m bummed there was so much potential yet little effort put into the making of this series. C level writing and character development.
Posted on 4/26/26 at 12:56 pm to Upperdecker
It’s worth it for the new season of For All Mankind, not Monarch.
Posted on 4/26/26 at 12:57 pm to SouthEasternKaiju
Damn alright. I’ll watch it next time there’s something worth getting AppleTV for

It's a shame too because you don't need peak level writers to draw in an audience. There are folks out there making really good stories and characters which can draw in an audience in half an episode while these clowns writing this show can't do it in several. Or even 2 seasons. And I know for a fact they have the actors who can and have done far better work. It's just low effort writing & directing that's so obvious.

Personally think Apple TV has the best content by a wide margin. Pretty much the main streaming service that I watch.

Finale' - just awful. Nothing makes any sense other than 'because the show needs it to happen this way!'.
Man, it's close. He's spouting off things about plot which he can't possibly know. No one can know, especially some dopey artist from Japan who has zero concept of what his dad was doing or the top secret tech & science of Apex and Monarch.
Did the show forget that Kentaro was just an artist? Or Cate was a school teacher? Neither gifted or trained to any high levels of science expertise?
Yes. Because the show never cared about them as real characters. They were just 'Randa kids!', and that's all the explanation that was needed.
And going back to Kong - Skull Island, how does the entire Randa timeline even make any sense? It doesn't, because none of it fits.
Anyway, the final shot was both cool and meaningless. About on par with Luke in S2 of Mando and Grogu.
