He's the lead in an Inarritu movie that is coming out next year. This is the guy who directed The Revenant.

Yeah I am hyped for that one. His trilogy of 3 dramas are some of the most heartbreaking films of all time

The actress who plays her, Rebecca Ferguson, has remarked that being a part of MI while incredible is way too time consuming. Essentially the production for these goes on for years and you have to be ready to work on it at the drop of a hat which meant she couldn’t take other roles and really grow her career. For instance she couldn’t have done dune. It’s understandable and she paid her dues on MI for like a decade.

I truly want the guy to receive an Oscar before he dies.
Me too. He should have won one already.
----they can give him a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, and/or AFI can honor him.

This one was a complete mess plot wise. Impossible to follow. And by mission impossible standards too.

But as always the action was masterclass.

ETA: the filmmakers also know it’s convoluted because they had an insane amount of very unnatural exposition. Maybe like 5 different “this is exactly what is happening right now” scenes.

I am legit shocked that this movie is getting only rave reviews on this board. I say this as a fan of all the other MI movies. To me this is the low point of the second phase of MI. Basically 4 to now.

I had complaints about the unbelievable aspects (ridiculous considering the concept of the series) and the cartoonish behavior of the villain at the end. That being said, the movies are known for the suspense and tension and I thought this movie pulled it off very well 3 different times.

Ethan getting to the sunken submarine and all the caveats with chain of commands to arrive with the team getting to the extraction was beyond the suspension of belief, but we arrived there breathlessly and artfully.

In a redone ranking now that we’re here.

Ghost Protocol
Fallout
Dead Reckoning
Rogue Nation
3
Final Reckoning
1
2

Not the glowingiest of praise but I’d watch everything but 2 any time it’s on TV. Fallout and Final Reckoning were the best heist/suspense out of them all.

I think this one fell into the trap of “how much bigger can we go?”

And they had to go to AI induced nuclear Armageddon which was a little comical. Also the fact that a president, if faced with the need to nuke the capitals of every other nuclear power, would offer up an American city unnecessarily just to save face is laughable.

Hey New York, you’re getting blown off the map because of “optics”.

Tom looks just a little long in the tooth…
But maybe it’ll work.

Yeah the exposition dumps were too much for me. I still don't understand the entity and the main villain guy's motivations at all after watching 5 and a half ours between 7 and 8.

That said the action was amazing and looked and felt real

Yeah as someone who LOVED Rogue Nation and Fallout, I just couldn't get into Dead Reckoning. Idk if I'll even watch this one tbh. I appreciate Cruise and what he does for the move industry but it might be time to move on.

The last 30 minutes was watchable. The rest of it was a waste of a Saturday. Bad. Bad. Bad. Way too fffing slow. A joke every ten minutes from Simon Pegg was about where the highlights were.

Auto feed dot matrix printers? That's so 1991. 24 pin or 9 pin? Repeatedly.

Goddamned reel to reel tape in the Cheyenne Mountain apparently transported to West Virginia.

Map "tables" like it wouldn't have been easier to mount the amount of TVs that a BWW has, so they can push around little caricatures of a carrier group like it's 1945.

An SSGN, the Ohio "hunting" other subs, when that's precisely not the job of an SSBN/SSGN. How hard would it have been to pick an Los Angeles or Virginia class sub that actually does that job. And BTW, does the prop have a shroud or not? It changed during the sub sequences.

A Victor II class sub following 100 yards behind? FFS, they were all retired years ago.
