re: Mel Gibson Tells Glenn Beck Jews Stole His Jesus Film to Make His Life Miserable

quote:Yeah, it didn't seem as though he was making a blanket or even bigoted statement, even if what Beck says is true. And Beck is a complete fricking fruitcake.
Did anyone actually read the quote? Gibson, according to Beck, didn't really say anything bad. He was lashing out at specific rabbis for stealing his movie and then attacking him.
Still, I never get sick of this.

Interesting that this comes out just before Mel's first movie in years is set to hit theaters.

I don't mean to defend Mel Gibson but the headline makes it sound 10000 times worse than the actual quote

I didn't see anything globally racist, though I didn't read the whole article.
Exactly. I'm reading the quote in the OP waiting for the punchline and not finding one.

Pretty sure he's coming out with a new movie

And then some Jewish people — I guess some rabbis or something, I didn’t get into it — somebody stole a copy of the movie before it was shown to anybody… And then they did a deal in The New York Times with all these rabbis trashing him as an anti-Semite
I have no clue about any of this...
But I do remember, before a single review came out...there were newspaper articles claiming "some people are saying the film is Anti-Semitic."
Seemed like a lot of those pay ads, that are mean't to read like articles.
I'm sure Gibson was paranoid, he was trying to make a billion bucks outside of the Hollywood system and he was making a movie about someone most in Hollywood deny. Tough road.

You can read the ADL's version at their site.
By their own account, they somehow got their hands on an early version of the script and were spreading anti-semitic hysteria all over the media before the public had heard anything legitimate about the film. They also supposedly snuck into a private advance screening for Christian pastors.
It was a pretty vengeful PR lynch mob. In their eyes, the traditional Christian Passion play itself is a hate crime. They can't get around the First Amendment in the US, so they use public shaming to scare Christians out of celebrating unapproved portions of our own traditions. They were happily turning Mel Gibson into some kind of monster before the film was even finished.
Shockingly, all the anti-semitic hate crimes they warned us about never happened once the film was actually released.

What did Mel say that was wrong?
Is "Jews" a bad word?
If they were with the ADL, then they were in fact Jews. If they were operating as Jews and opposing him from that perspective, then it is accurate.
It doesn't seem that he used "Jews" in a negative manner at all.
Glenn Beck is a jerk.

He didn't even say "Jews". He said Jewish people.

For whatever reason I read this as Mel Brooks (probably the Gene Wilder death has it on my mind). Realized my mistake when I read the post but the mental image of how that conversation would go had me cracking up.

So, either Mel had an off the record conversation with Beck. . .and Beck violated his trust by putting it on the record
Or Beck made this up to confirm a conspiratorial narrative he was pumping on that given day.
Either way, he is a deceitful frick that should be sued into poverty

Reminds me of attacking the teen ager who hacked Palin Yahoo emails to prove why Alaskan law requires governor to use state system.

Besides speaking of the specific Jewish group that somehow got copy of film I think that quote may have been about his drunken outburst to cops years ago. I had glanced at post article mentioned and did not think it had that negative tone on Mel presently and was Mel talking about his past, but I did not read it all.
This post from Beck on meeting is still up:

quote:
I had a fascinating afternoon with Mel Gibson and Randall Wallace.
Would love to spend a week with them both picking their brains. Brilliant men.
I didn't know what to expect from Mel. He was everything I would have hoped he was. Kind, generous, humble, funny, self deprecating, very self aware and a great student of history.
Sober ten years and a new man.
Raphe just watched Braveheart about a month ago not knowing we would be meeting with Mel and Randall.

Not being an anti-Semite in any fashion but I have family who works in Hollywood, two fairly high up the money chain at a major studio, & both say it is accepted as fact in Hollywood circles that when Gibson went into his drunken rants back then, the Jewish Hollywood clan literally blackballed him. I read here & elsewhere that Gibson has been sober for 10 yrs & running.
