it seemed a lot woke with him being a conflict resolution HR guy, offerings Skeletor a chance and talking about what could be causing his anger, trying to talk about his feelings all the time, the constant sexual innuendo and how many times can you make a fisting joke.
Fisting jokes are woke now?

Saw it this afternoon. I thought it was better than it had any right to be. As an 80s kid, it hit a lot of the right notes for a He-Man movie. Some jokes fell flat, but there were legit funny lines. I didn’t feel it was preachy, more tongue in cheek poking fun at both modern and 80s cultural ideas. Teela was a badass, but they didn’t do the whole she can’t be saved by any man routine. My 17yo son, who had no idea about any of the characters, liked it too, but he was quite a bit less enthusiastic. I’d say 8/10, but he was like 6.5.

Loved it.
Skeletor was awesome
Fisting and head jokes were awesome.
Allison Brie as Evil-lyn was AWFUL
Teela was HOT AF
The first time he became He-Man gave me all kinds of goosebumps

She is so fine, and they made sure to have her turn her arse to the camera so many times
And that transformation was so good. I’ve been listening to eternia from the soundtrack—epic
I need more Battle Cat and Skeletor/Panthor

I heard one reviewer say they forgot to give Evil Lynn a personality, and she is just ends up being Skeletor's "Yes Man"
True?
Yes and no. If you compare her role in this movie to Meg Foster's version in the 1987 film, then I suppose so. The 1987 film gave her more to do and even suggested that there was a possible romantic relationship between her and Skeletor. This movie didn't go that route at all. She assisted Skeletor and fought Teela during the final showdown, but that was about it. As others have said, he basically bullied her and she deserted him at the end, until the post-credits scene.

I think Jenna Ortega would have been a better fit for that role

Just saw it. Wasn’t planning on it because the trailer looked blah, but given the reactions in this thread, seemed like a fun watch. And yall were right. What a great summer flick! It had a very Cobra Kai vibe, which is fine with me. Soundtrack was awesome too.
I thought she was fine in her role. I thought the casting was really good all around. The lead guy did great, and I’ve never seen him in anything.
This is the first summer in forever where I am stoked about all the good movies coming out.

I watched 2 episodes of the original cartoon yesterday and to say the plots are paper thin is an understatement. Obviously 6 year old me was not difficult to impress.
Film was ok.
The biggest problem is the constant marvel quips. They never stop. It's just a constant nails on chalkboard assault of them. They refuse to let you get into the movie because they constantly wanna shoehorn this "humor" into every scene.
Took him too long to become He-man too. Stooge Adam got a little played out. Teela is way too bitchy too.
Regardless, it captures the spirit of the cartoon about as well as you can considering the kinda ridiculous nature of it.
Skeketor was good. Costumes were all good.

Not sure if it would have helped the box office in s meaningful way or not but they really should have called it He-Man.
The Masters of the Universe umbrella term has way less recognition. The diehards know it but casual viewers may not really. Guarantee you there are plenty of people who have heard of He-Man but if you ask them what masters of the universe was they look at you with a vacant expression.
Despite the fact that He-Man hasn't been a culturally relevant franchise in like 40 years he still has tremendous name and appearance recognition.
They need to stop hiding him as one of an ensemble. He's the franchise.

I saw it and liked it as much as I could like the He-man movie as an adult. Considering how powerful they made He-man the movie plot probably maximized what they could do with the character.
Skeletor was good. Evil Lyn was probably underpowered a little (less ambitious than the comic version).
There were the cloaked sex gags adults noticed in the cartoons and toys. The HR stuff where Adam works was actually kinda clever for a simultaneous mockery of present culture and the source material.
I could sort of see how a really serious person would call an early scene between his father and Adam an example of toxic masculinity but that interpretation would require the same person to ignore a later scene in which more compassion is shown.
If you like the source material then you will probably like the movie. Does it need more movies? I dunno about that. Probably kids cartoons and kids toys would make more sense.

Ya know this movie is gonna be a litmus test for me. I can’t trust any critic that says this movie sucked. Movie was fun as hell.

I can’t get invested either way but welcome to the party. I’d say if you’re a fan, go watch.

A bit surprised at this as even Jared Leto is getting praised for his performance.
Which is unusual.

I’ll guess it ends up around $170 million gross if it does D&D numbers. (30/37 =0.811 .81% x $207mm ww for d&d = $167mm for Masters).
That’s the production budget I guess. I wonder if it’ll be enough to try to capitalize on toys/games with at least a streaming sequel.

i see all positive reviews and this is still the thread title. can we quit using critic scores and use the audience score. this movie is sitting at 87% audience reviews. for as much as people bitch about the decline of theaters posting lower scores than a movie is actually getting doesn't encourage casuals to go out and see anything
I'm pretty sure the only thing everyone on this forum agrees on is that critic scores are pretty much meaningless nowadays besides maybe some small indie films

Everyone always uses the critic score but I’ll add audience. At least how I view it, I know a 70-75% critic score is probably a good movie even though it looks low.
That number is graded on a scale to me because I don’t trust them
Patiently waiting for Roaad’s review
