Just randomly started this on prime and it’s giving the same vibe as the latest dungeons and dragons flick

Hope it continues because that movie was fun

Edit: Just finished and damn baw that was entertaining

I started it too late and fell asleep, but it looked pretty faithful.

Have to give it another try.

It’s my favorite movie of the year. I have some nitpicks, maybe they could’ve let the emotion breathe a little more etc, but it captured the spirit pretty well. I’m even trying to collect a few figures/statues they’re putting out for it

This movie was awesome, just watched it tonight and wasn’t expecting it to be that good. Better than 90% of that marvel trash. They nailed that theme song too. Awesome 80s vibe to it.

Would an 8yo boy enjoy it?
Hoping it could be a good home movie night flick

I would have loved it at 8 years old.

I loved it at 45, but I would have loved it at 8 too.

yeah I would think so

Reminds me of when I watched rocky single handily win the Cold War as a young chap

Plus the music for the film fits so good very 80s feel

Not to mention the good guy has a bad arse sword what’s not to like as an 8 year old

Definitely

Just to be up front for anyone overly sensitive but they make a couple sexual innuendo jokes about Fisto’s name. I don’t think a kid would understand them

True

Kind of reminds me of the jokes Pixar puts in only adults would get, an 8 year old would not pick up on that IMO

Honestly couldn’t really remember any curse words etc in the movie

Skeletor is funny as the bad guy as well

Some of those scenes with Skeletor were really clever and funny as shite.

there are a few curse words but they aren't forefront and centered so you have to actually hear them to hear them if that makes sense. I think Teela said shite one or two times but it was off camera or in a chase so you don't pay much attention to it.

ETA: Watched it last night and enjoyed it. The characters were well done to what I remember the toys and cartoon being and looking like. This is a very different movie than the 80s version with a much lighter feel. I liked the egg with Dolph being in the gym giving advice to the newbie.

I did find it strange that Princes of the Universe was a prominent song. It was the OG song for Highlander back in the 80s so bringing it in for this movie fits, but is still a bit strange.

Brian May had a major role in the soundtrack

They asked him in the cop car if he thought he was Highlander with the sword so I appreciated that nod

I was working late and had this on in the background.

I couldn’t decide in my limited attention to it if they were making fun of HR PC culture or leaning into making fun of Prince Adam which I guess makes it a good parody. Was he that big of a wuss in the first cartoon? It was so long ago I can’t recall.

It seemed like they did a pretty good job with it overall and I was entertained even if I came away wondering if the gay innuendo was there in the original and I was too young to pick up on it or what, but it was tough to miss here.

I probably need to give it a second watch to give it a full review because I missed some of the parts mentioned in this thread as highlights, but overall I enjoyed it for what it was.

It stayed really true to the 80's cartoon. That included the humor. It's really geared towards kids. I found my attention wavering somewhat.
But, overall, it was good.

Movie was a lot of fun. Simple for sure, but they really did nail the feel of the cartoons. Them all belly laughing at the end was so good and cheesy .
