No spoilers but if you were ever wondering if the story pays off, it does

Very well written and doesn’t spell out EXACTLY what happened but it’s pretty clear. I can post spoilers if you are interested

Great finale

When did it cut over to netflix? That's when we stopped watching and never picked it back up for some reason.

SPOILERS

They passengers were pulled into heaven by their future selves crashing into the plane when they entered heaven during the finale. The callings during the show were their own memories from the future telling them what to do in order to save themselves. After colliding (in the future during the finale) a door revealed itself and it was the boarding gate they were supposed to arrive at in the very beginning 5 years ago, but they had all their memories from the last 5 years and they were able to have happy endings because they faced their failures.

ETA: The ending with the passengers in the finale going back to the past mirrors the passengers in the pilot appearing in the future. They swapped places.

I loved the entire show and I thought it was one of the best series endings ever!

That’s certainly one way to view it, and you’re the first person that I’ve come across that liked the series finale. It wasn’t awful but it was definitely rushed, the same cops are still going to investigate why a handful of passengers just disappeared off a plane during the series finale. It wasn’t Bloodline or Witcher Season 3 bad but it wasn’t much better.

I loved the finale as well. I really didn't care about it being rushed, etc. The last couple of seasons sort of went off the rails to me. But the finale tied everything in nicely and was a perfect ending.

I certainly didn't read everything into in the OP did. But I loved the way it wrapped everything and tied it with a bow!

There were several scenes where what I posited was explicitly stated. I don't necessarily want to spoil it for others but everything I gathered was written into the show. I could do a scene breakdown to prove it.

Wife enjoyed the show enough to stick it through the end as well.

***SPOILERS***

Didn't like they just had the bad people that died/got pulled down to hell in the 5 years or burned on the final plane ride and just leave that part untold. No explanation to those families or anything. There's no way the surviving passengers would not all be questioned and wanted by police after having a large number of people board a plane but not land.

Didn't mind Michaela going meet Zeke at the end, but having her explain to Jared that he belonged with baby momma was weak. Dude spent every season trying to get back with Michaela, that's obviously where he wanted be. They should have had Michaela just say her heart was not with Jared and instead was with Zeke, similar to Saanvi and Ben.

Very glad to see Ben get a piece of Saanvi

I thought it was at least awful. Maybe worse.

It really was a great finale. One of the better ones in recent years, IMO.

Yeah, she's a terrible lesbian. You could tell she's been feeling Ben for some time, especially after Grace's death.

SPOILERS

The voices they are hearing are memories. This is established later. It’s also later established they have been to a place that transcends time while on the plane and that the plane exploded as well. The place they went to was called “the divine”. In the last season, it’s established that the “divine glow” chased the plane leading to a collision that caused the passengers to disappear for 5 years.

In the finale, the passengers board a resurrected 828 and take off. While flying they are “judged” while entering into a dark lightning storm. After passing judgment, they see “the divine glow” and when asked what they should do, Michaela says to “chase it” so they chase it and collide with it…entering the divine. They leave the plane entering into the glow outside and come to the boarding gate 5 years in the past. The idea is THEY (from the end of the series) were the ones who collided with themselves (at the beginning of the series) setting up a time loop in which passengers at the beginning were following their own memories to save themselves. If they passed “the judgement” (explained in season 3) they escape the loop with a second chance.
