Just watched it for the first time in years. Great fricking movie. 100% a great reboot on Superman and they did nothing to follow it up.

Perfect casting throughout. Costner was a great choice as the dad. Perfect choice for Superman.

How did this not become trilogy?

Because it was not a great movie. It was a bad movie. And DC wanted to rush to get to Justice League after losing their asses to Marvel for 5 years.

Superman is a lame choir boy, and not an interesting character

Not sold completely on the movie but the score is amazing. The first 10 minutes+score make a really good opening sequence.

I've always been a fan. It's a very enjoyable film.

It was a solid starting point for the DCEU. The franchise’s problems were not because of this movie.

They needed their own solo Batman movie first. Plus, Wonder Woman and Aquaman should’ve come before BvS as well.

If they had taken some time instead of panicking over Civil War’s success, they could’ve had a decent cinematic universe. WW and Aquaman are proof of that.

It was and is a great movie. It was the Superman film I wanted as an adult after growing up inspired by Christopher Reeve. It was Superman for a modern audience. The action, tone, and score were amazing. Not for children or man-children..

The franchise’s problems are exactly because of this movie. Some guy throws a drink in your face? Destroy his entire 18 wheeler. Maybe the guy just found out his wife left him, got drunk as shite, threw the drink, woke up the next day feeling bad about it, but then he has his life ruined when you destroy his 18 wheeler. That’s a petty tyrant, not a champion for the everyman. It never remotely considered anything that happened off screen. It was all wrong from the start.

It sucked because it was scared to embrace being a comic book movie and being a Superman movie.

Way too dour, way too full of itself.

Perhaps you should read the first year or two of Superman comics. He was always an enforcer- protecting women from thugs and the common man from greedy industrialists and slumlords. And he didn't fly until later. You seem to be stuck in about third gear. They had three gears in the 50's but we've moved on since then. Your boy scout is but one facet of many.

I am going to have to Disagree. The movie made the mistake away leaning on FX too much at the expense of a good story.

In "Superman", the first Christopher Reeve film, the story around Clark Kent was just as entertaining as Superman.

There can be no good "Superman" movie without a healthy side of Clark Kent and Lois lane.

Even though Batman vs Superman was not great film, the Clark Kent Reporter and Lois Lane components I thought were the better parts of the file...and I don't particularly care for Amy Adams as Lois Lane

Well, yeah, that was kind of the point. Snyder wanted to make a movie about a man with the powers of a god, not a benevolent god in human form who always does what a boy scout should. I don't think Snyder nailed it, but that's what he was trying to do.

But why is he better in the end? He has a ridiculous blowout match with Zod that could have been done in the countryside. 4 people he doesn’t know makes him change his mind when his battle with Zod cost 30,000 lives? This image is all you need to see on why Superman is not a hero in this movie.

There’s probably 80 people dead. Great job Superman! That was completely worth it for that epic shot.

The other problem with too many special effects is they cease to be special.

Watching buildings fall down gets boring as hell if you do it for 30 minutes straight.

The final 20 minutes of Man of Steel is numbing. You just get bombarded with over the top CGI and there comes a point where your eyes glaze over.

It was the first comic book movie I was praying would end with the planet getting smoked and everyone dying.

It was a PoS and sitting through the Metropolis battle was less entertaining than a transformers movie.

Personally I was sickened by it. I was thinking this wasn’t heroic, Superman led them to Earth. And he’s choosing to fight in fricking Manhattan? He could fly off and Zod would follow him. Yeah it looks epic, but what is going on off screen? Thousands and thousands dying. But Snyder is completely oblivious to this in the name of an epic shot. But then I’m supposed to believe that 4 people Superman has never met all of the sudden he has a change of heart? After nearly 400,000 dead, it’s tears in a bucket at this point. I don’t think Snyder remotely understood the death toll on the scene he was filming.
