Man in the High Castle is a Collassal Failure with a Great Premise (SPOILERS)

They have a great premise. How would the world have looked if Germany and Japan won the war. Great fricking concept. However this show is a complete fricking failure. It is so boring I can hardly stay awake during even the season finale. The time travel stuff is so fricking stupid. They fricked this show up royally. Just expand on the basic concepts of the relationship between Germany and Japan, the resistance and the two major powers, and finally Americans in a post war world.
They completely ruined a great concept I wish Harry Turtledove would have written and produced this series.

Have you watched the second season? I haven't started yet.

Harry couldn't write it because Phillip did.

I disagree. It's not a great show as many of the "good guys" are annoying but it's still a decent show. Also season 2 is so much better than season 1.

Season two is better than one. This show suffers from the fact that the supporting characters are more interesting than the main characters.

Season 2 was great IMO
Became better when it focused more on Obergruppenfuhrer, Kido and Trade Minister.

I couldn't get past the episode with 'the marshal' in it. He was a 5 ft tall pussy with a ridiculously fake western accent trying to be a tough guy in the neutral zone (where there is supposedly no law & order).
I could get over the fact that no one just shot him in the back of the head and be done with it.

Hard to be worse. I struggled to make it through S2:E1 and just haven't been able to watch anymore of it. Might give it another shot since you guys say it gets better

Incredibly bland show. It has no idea of what it wants to be.

It's not horrible, but I agree with most of your statement.
With the premise you could have a much better storyline.
Everytime I see it I think "there has to be more interesting shite going on in this world than Julia's love triangle."
I did like in the second season when you got to see more of how the Reich continued much of its policies of WW2.
For instance, Rocketry was the Manhattan project of Germany. We threw our might into Nuclear weapons, they to rockets. So you see they have rocket passenger service in the mid sixties but a video of a Hydrogen bomb is mind blowing to them.
You also see that they kept up the killing of undesirables and people with handicaps. Then still have grand plans like the Atlantropa.
The little details were great. I wanted to see more of 1960s Berlin, than 1960's Japanese San Francisco.

I simply hated all the characters we were supposed to like. Julia, Frank, Joe, and everyone in the Resistance. I find myself purely rooting for Smith, and the two Japanese officials, as they are the only people who I can stomach.

That's Karl Tanner from Gin Alley. He's a fricking legend.

In this universe, Germany beat us to the atom bomb; it's why we lost. In our universe, the hydrogen bomb wasn't tested until 1952 and was a response to the USSR getting the atom bomb in the latter 40s. Back in this universe as far as the Germans know, Japan doesn't even have the atom bomb, so the hydrogen bomb really is mind blowing and there was no known reason to pursue it.

actually the US never invented the atomic bomb, because the US never joined WW2. They stayed out until after europe was taken over by Germany.
What I was trying to say is that in real life we worried that Germany was going to beat us to the bomb, when they weren't even close. They had early on put much of the black funding into rockets, while ours (in real life) went to nukes.
We got rocketry later by capturing their scientists.
I get in this alternate timeline there was no real cold war so no need to further advance nuke technology.

I am in season one and enjoying it?
Posted on 1/29/17 at 5:19 pm to OleWarSkuleAlum
nailed it. It was a genuine struggle to get through both seasons.
The production quality is top notch, i even think the actors and performances are pretty solid, but the story is just really poorly realized and generally a bore. And as you said the premise is a great one, with endless possibilities. How they manage to make a boring show is quite an accomplishment.
