Leonard is played by an unknown actor named Evan Arnold

Stan is awesome, hard not to love that guy.
I couldn't help but think of Zach Galifianakis kissing Peggy in the end, though.

That entire scene with Joan and Roger was awesome. I was rolling at the "she's old enough to be her mother" and "little rich bastard" lines.

It's finally sinking in that this show is over
Whoever said they should release a short of Don giving the coke pitch, I agree. That would be awesome.

For me Don definitely goes back to advertising and makes that Coke ad.
It's usually not Weiner's style to beat us over the head with an idea. I don't really see how anyone can doubt that he went back and created that Coke ad.

the coke ad was filmed in Italy too.
it has been mentioned here before that the last happy moment between Don and Betty was their trip to Italy.
he did the ad. I think Sally helps her mom in amends to their tumultuous relationship when she was younger.
Mad Men has numerous episodes where after immediate viewing I am not sure if I liked it. It takes me a few days to decide.
I got frustrated with Don's trip across California and I got excited when he was wanting to come back to NYC.
but in the end I liked the ending.
roger is awesome.
pete somehow became a favorite of mine.
Happy for Peggy and stan.
meh on Joan.
I appreciate the Don story arc now. I realize that he needed a rebirth for many, mostly selfish, reasons.

Except that some people out there are actually bitching about Don dropping out of society and becoming some kind of New Age guru.

Right before the Coke Ad played, I was furious. I couldn't believe that Mad Men would end with Don Draper doing Yoga and finding enlightenment. Couldn't believe they wasted 5 minutes with that Leonard guy. Was about to say it was the worst finale since How I Met Your Mother.
Amazing how playing that one commercial changes everything about the finale and the last few episodes.

Many are saying Don was at the Esalen institute, but I don't know what evidence they have, although it would make sense. The Esalen Institute was very very interesting and a lot ideas and powerful people went there to meditate and come up with new ideas.
People like B.F. Skinner and Timothy Leary were leaders there atone point.

Selfish?
Maybe, but the guy has had an INCREDIBLY fricked up life. People seem to easily forget this.
I think Pete, Anna, Joan, Roger, Peggy and sort of Betty ultimately knowing this and forgiving him every time speaks volumes. Betty probably the least bit, but considering the type of person she is, for her to cry with him over the phone was a pretty huge scene. I firmly believe she died at peace with Don and fully understands why he wasn't around so much, even if it pissed her off/hurt the children.
Sure Don has made some serious mistakes and broken his vows, but as Peggy said "what has he done that is so bad"? He was honest and generous in everything besides his dealings with woman.
It was a tremendous ending. It was true in every sense of the show. It was always going to be about Don and it had to end that way.

He's a survivor. He took the one thing in the world that was supposed to be an authentic rebellion against modern culture and commercialism and turned it into a Coke ad. It's a statement about modern consumer society. Nothing is real and everyone and everything has a price to surrender their authenticity.
It's the most Don Draper thing Don Draper ever did. EVER.
I burst out laughing at the end when the commercial came on. I loved that ending and I only had a general idea of how big that ad really was.

My contribution to this thread. This is the final impression Mad Men left me with. You're welcome.

I don't think Don did the ad. He made many references to being retired in the last episode unless he was just trying to convince himself that he was actually retiring.

Amazed that John Slattery has never won an Emmy or SAG award for his Mad Men work. He just doesn't give a less than awesome performance.

Yeah, I thought line/question from Peggy was really on point. Made me rethink his character a little bit.

Interesting fact - his mom, in real life, is named Joan.
Mind Blown

If I'm remembering correctly he's said he's been retired on multiple occasions.
The real question is, why the hell show the ad if it wasn't him?
Literally no reason to not show it. Wayyy too many references to (in the McCann guys whispering voice) "Coca-Cooollaaa".
He's a survivor, he always comes back.

The issues with woman obviously stem from being motherless surrounded by prostitutes growing up.
Pretty easy to understand honestly..

Weiner toyed with us or me on this many times. I thought one ending could have been terrible. Don is really a sociopath and murderer? A few dream sequence blurbs through the show. Strangling the woman and stuffing under the bed, the police stopping him "you knew we'd find you one day". When the kid sets him up for stealing the veterans money. He says "you have no idea what I'm capable of. I could have killed you". Something like that.
Don as a serial killer would have disappointed me. But I would have got it. So many ominous hints.
Even with Dons brother early on. Don opens his desk drawer to get money. But they give you the feeling it is a gun. There is even the sound of a gun being moved that is used. Sound of a hammer click (not dry fire) or gun metal hitting something.
Awesome show. Weiner jacked with us the whole time. Must be hard to write a 7 year masterpiece. well over 100 hour master motion picture?
