He'll they've even attempted to remake it and it's been ran in it's original form since I've been alive. And I'm 33.

It's only appropriate that it was written by Don MF Draper. Very, very appropriate.

Well, people were convinced that the intro was alluding to such. Watching it, you can understand why.

Except that the falling dude in the intro ends up just chilling in a chair with a smoke once the fall is completed. No one ever seems to recognize that fact. It's almost like the falling amongst ads was just symbolic or something.

If you're waiting on a confirmation from Weiner, you'll probably be waiting awhile.

Did any of you folks wanting to "see" everything watch The Sopranos?

And people wonder why so many shitty shows that are laughably simple make it and great shows get cancelled. It is because people are stupid and need to be spoon fed everything.

I agree he did the commercial! What is great is that he was getting more and more out of touch with the youth of America and this experience brought him back to being in touch with America's current cultural sentiment.

That's it then? He used his hippy experience as inspiration for the commercial?

Maybe the Coke ad has to be explained as far as how big it was in the 70's but the show did pretty much communicate that Don came up with ad regardless.

Perhaps folks can appreciate that?

And for those that wanted Don to return to being a bad arse then that was pretty much him being it.

Ask anyone who was alive in the 70's what commercial they remember and that has to be near or at the top.

That commercial was on the air long after 1971.

Exactly.

They've re-used that jingle/tag-line over and over at different times over the past four decades.

Its timeless.

I'm glad the internet is around so I can understand the gravity of that ad, otherwise, it means nothing to me.

This little chunk of episodes was like watching paint dry, with a little bit of Peggy in there.

It's supposed to be ambiguous beyond the commercial. Maybe he goes back and ends up taking care of the kids. Finds happiness.

And it's not "just a commercial". That's the kind of commercial where your kids will live off the royalties.

ETA: How the frick do some of you not know that commercial? For God's sake get out more.

He was stuck there until the end of the week, so why not?

Not disagreeing with you, but the fall is never really completed, it just cuts and he is on the couch. If you can't see how having a guy jump out a window and falling amongst skyscrapers might make people believe that it is alluding to something, then I can't help you.

It's not that simple. That experience was cathartic for him and he found peace like Sylvia once told him. Then he went back and did the work like Freddy once told him. I really don't think the smile was him thinking of the idea.

The thing is that Don losing himself in the finale would have had much more impact if it hadn't happened already so many times throughout the series. He had several epiphanies throughout and always went back to his boozing, womanizing, and distant parenting, so why should this last time be any different?

Weiner went to that well too many times to make this last one more meaningful.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but you never see the guy "jump out a window"... all you ever see is him falling.
