It slipped my mind do a recap for 2023, but here it is nonetheless. I can't watch every horror movie (I try) so my list is comprised of ones I have watched. If you have a favorite I missed, please let me know!

1. When Evil Lurks
2. Talk to Me
3. Evil Dead Rise
4. Godzilla Minus One (monster movie - I'm counting it!)
5. Hell House LLC, Origins
6. Saw X
7. Last Voyage of the Demeter
8. V/H/S/ 85
9. M3GAN
10. Renfield

Honorable Mentions Cobweb, Insidious: The Red Door, The Boogeyman, Thanksgiving, Five Nights at Freddy's, Totally Killer

Disappointments: The Exorcist Believer, The Nun II, Dark Harvest

For television, it was The Fall of the House of Usher by a wide margin.

Don't know if I would have this in front of your Honorable Mentions. I was really looking forward to seeing this and was severely disappointed. Boring, too dark to see anything, and the ending was meh.

I enjoyed it. Loved the atmosphere and the setting.

Everyone should watch When Evil Lurks

It's probably the only must see, although Evil Dead is pretty good. This wasn't a good year for horror.

Given this top 10, I'm shocked "The Pope's Exorcist" didn't make the cut

The VHS franchise is a guilty pleasure of mine and I thought this years entry was entertaining. Love that Shudder has made it an October tradition.

M3GAN just did it for me. Found it enjoyable and good introduction horror for the teens. Will possibly be their Child’s Play. Held up well on a rewatch.

Talk to Me was also excellent, but yeah agree it wasn’t a great year for horror.

Usually the indie horror movies carry the bulk but I didn’t find many this year I enjoyed.

When Evil Lurks, Talk to Me, and Evil Dead Rise are all really good and disturbing movies to the causal fan, so beware and enjoy!

This movie was so bad, made only slightly interesting when I realized it was based on a “real story”

Any of those other than Thanksgiving kind of old school horror like Texas Chainsaw/Scream/not possession style? I love old school horror, just don't get them very often.

Hmmm, not really but I'd recommend Talk To Me and Hell House LLC, Origins. I think you'd like them.

Whatever vibe they tapped into for M3GAN, I'm here for it. It was reminiscent of the wink & nod to the audience that I felt from The Cabin in the Woods.

I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy (relatively speaking for horror) Where Evil Lurks. It has demons but the evil is much more of a brooding, overseeing evil.

It's not like some zombie movie or anything.

It was for me, until Viral. The only good part of Viral was Parallel Monsters.

Benson and Moorehead even had a short and it was meh, and I love B&M.

94 was pretty meh (I really wanted to like it) and I turned 99 off in 5 minutes. I have seen parts of some of the bits though. I just couldn't give 85 a chance when I saw the reviews online from found footage groups I follow.

Although, looking at the Wiki, I did not know they made a 2nd full movie from a short (Kids vs. Aliens).

VHS85, really? I had my doubts about that one because the several before it had sucked so much.

I’m usually not aligned with your rankings, but give me a reason to check out VHS85 and I may give it a shot.

I really enjoyed VHS 85, the stories are pretty fun and the Dreamkill one is really creepy. And the virtual reality one is disturbing in a way. The lake one is cool and the earthquake one is pretty decent too. And this is coming from someone who thinks all of them after VHS 2 have been dog shite.

And I liked Dark Harvest a lot too, cool setting and a lot darker tone than I was anticipating.

Haven’t seen it BUT heard it compared to Lucio Fulci movies like City of the Living Dead. If that’s the case I’m all in.
