They've been enlightened like Charlie and Faraday have. They know everything. Hurley even knew Ana Lucia, and he only knew her for less than a month. I still have no idea how this show will end.

Ya, Alpert just got crushed. Can't recall if he showed up in the alternate timeline, maybe thats where he makes his mark.
ETA: Ya, if I remember right, we saw that the island was underwater in the alt timeline, so maybe that plays a part. Maybe we already know the island is gone?

FIFY, but agreed, he was basically a nothing character, but a cool one none the less. I think he was there because they knew what they were going to do with Season 5, so they wanted one character to kinda tie it all together and to have a flashback showing some answers.

Liked the episode but how can Ben kill Widmore. I thought that was impossible or am I misremembering that. Ben pretty much said, "you know I can't do that" when Widmore asked him if he was there to kill him.
Also, Richard is immortal. Not sure how smokey picking him up and slamming him does anything to him. I doubt he is dead. Or if he is that was weak.
Reminds me of The Mummy by Anne Rice. She spends countless pages talking about how back during the time of Cleopatra, a cow given immortality was chopped into pieces and dropped in the Nile and those pieces would still be alive in the Nile today. Yet when Cleopatra was hit by a train, everyone assumed she was dead even though she had the same immortality.
I guess they could just say that his immortality was similar to Elves in the Tolkien world that could not die of sickness or old age but they could be killed by severe injury.
That would be weak. So I think he is still alive somewhere.

While I do agree that Jacob is an a-hole, I think Jacob just wanted as many suitable candidates as possible for the job.

Refresh my memory, did Hurley and Ana Lucia know each other in the alt timeline? She apparently didn't know him, did he only know her because of the island and his "enlightenment"? Or had they met early in the alt timeline and I've forgotten?
