i think when Jacob gave the Illana the list of 6 Sayid and Locke were still in contention for candidates

yea sayid was def candidate because Illana kept asking Ben where he was after the temple massacre and Ben responded considering he just killed Dogan i dont think he will be joining us

But she stated this after the Temple was raided by Flocke and after Sayid killed Dogan...
She said "I have to protect the 6 remaining candidates". I would think that if she knows why she is protecting them that she also knows that they are no longer candidates after what happened.
Who knows... 8 more episodes and all will be cleared up in those regards
