But you just said you liked that they made fun of overly-critical fans.

I'm saying that some of the things in the episodes have been the voice of the fans. And sometimes those opinions (within the show) are dismissed. And I take that as them kind of making light of all the over-analysis that goes into the show from people.

Maybe you and I just differ on "mean." But you thinking that it's mean flows with my "takeing it personally" theory though.

Fair enough.

So you're saying they're not doing this:

It's like taunting a fat kid with double-stuffed oreos and then making fun of him for eating them and being fat. It is mean. No question.

The show was over. It was a tribute.

I guess I can see why you are thinking the way you are. Hopefully, someone in the know will confirm the intention so we can all let it go.

It was explained and no one liked it. Hence why it should have never, ever been explained. Again, you're equating getting crappy answers with not getting answers and it just doesn't fly. The mystery of the island is what made the show great. There was really no good way to explain (like the Force in Star Wars). So explaining it lead to two things: It pissed people off due to the crappy explanation and it took away the coolest thing about the show.

especially since it was a pointless part when you examine the ending.

It wasn't pointless at all. It was just a like underwhelming.

quote:

the island was meaningless, yet it was an integral character

How was the island meaningless?

Again, you're denying that these answers ever took place because you didn't like them (and I agree with that.)

Would the episode have lost any meaning without the wreckage shot at the end? Did it add anything?

That's my point. Take it away, a small and somewhat meaningless "tribute" that could be included on the DVD, and you eliminate 90% of the problem with the finale. So the only purpose of the wreckage was to provide an outlet for questioning.

I don't see the wreckage as anything but a flashback to episode 1 and a way to end the show. I don't (want to) believe it had any significance.

I think they did to a degree. But a) to a far less degree than you do, and b) that it certainly isn't "mean" or some giant "disrespectful slap in the face" to the fans like you think it is.

no way jose. they had a two hour tribute to the show right before the finale. Every single shot you saw last night had a purpose.

I don't think it's even that. I think it shows us how far the show has come. Again, this is my opinion as to the intention. With that said, there is ample evidence that they did not all die on the 815 plane crash.

Jack never met Nadia.

Jack's perspective only. It's the only logical conclusion.

I have not read this whole thread (obviously), but I think the shot of the wreckage was there for several reasons:

1. Metaphor for broken lives
2. Tribute to those that died and survived the plane crash.
3. A cool way to show the first set piece of the series.

How is everyone getting that it meant they were dead? Wouldn't there have been dead bodies all around it?

While the show was on. The show was over when LOST flashed on the white screen. End of story.

I think the bigger evidence isn't the shot of wreckage, but the fact that there is no camp near it, no one walking around it, and it is virtually undisturbed. The exact opposite of what happened on the show with the "survivors."

That would have completely given it away instead of making people debate it.

no brother the plane they the rode in the end had no blue stripe like the oceanic plane and if you look at the last images there is the blue stripe so its no way they crashed on the island

your welcome

Side note:

I'm on page 54 of this thread still catching up, and it's really hard reading SFP and Freaux's posts in here, because they all say the same thing. Over. And over. And fricking over. I think I'm about to start skipping their posts to speed up this process. Which, btw, is a difficult process...posting in the thread, while catching up with it, while (just now) watching the Kimmel show from last night.
