Whoever said the theory about Jack accepting death I think was spot on. And it was purgatory, the island and the side-flashes. Once the last one of them (Jack) accepted death, they could all go to heaven.
The Island was NOT purgatory. Its not even remotely feasible.

what were they protecting it from before there was an MIB?
People who wanted to take the light. This was answered in Across The Sea.
oh, i know. but the person i was replying to seemed to think Hurley had nothing to protect the island from. i was just saying that MIB was not the only thing the island needed to be protected from.

You claim that the LOST being flashed ends the show. Well genius. Every episode ends that way but there were more episodes.
God, I am so glad I didn't just assume after the end of episode 1 the whole show was over because Lost flashed on the screen.

You would prefer the "midichlorian" answer?

I love that statement. A show full of impossible things and you say something is not feasible.

Lost castaways are mysteriously "brought" to the Island, presumably through the use of mystical and electromagnetic properties found within the Island
how did the island get these properties? what is the basis of the properties?
quote:
From a literary perspective, the writers of Lost often project the Island, not only as a location, but also as an entity with its own characteristics that can influence its inhabitants.
exactly. the island is a character that was not explored
quote:
It also appears that some mystical characteristics of the Island can be used beyond the geography of the Island. How this is possible has yet to be revealed.
and never will be
quote:
Over time, we also discover the Island has more than one geographic location. The Island can be moved to various geographic locations, making it difficult to find
pretty funny considering the electromagnetic powers of the island which are based in its geography
quote:
Because it has moved, its current location is unknown.
did we ever find out how whitmore found it again? i forget
quote:
According to Jacob, the Island serves as a cork preventing a mysterious evil
what evil?
quote:
the escape of this evil entity would bring disaster to the world and cause existence to cease.
this sounds interesting, yet they don't explain it
quote:
The Man in Black is implied to be or represent this evil that cannot escape the Island.
this horrible evil which was killed by jack on the island

can you even tell me in the big picture why this is important to the character of jack?
Again, going with the "without the light life/purgatory/afterlife ceases to exist" theory..
(Yes, you want to know why, I dont care)
...it seems pretty obvious why Jack wants to keep the light on. so shite stays EXISTING. So his friends live. So he has an afterlife. So Aaron back in America lives, etc.

But it was not. I still not sure where I stand on the ending. But it was not remotely the greatest 15 minutes of TV as some were saying it was supposed to be.
The last 8 minutes of Six Feet Under kicks Lost in the balls and breaks Lost's neck while pissing on the dead remains.
My point was is that guy would say that the finale would suck no matter what the ending was. At least you're giving reasons why you found it disappointing.

It was the last episode of the series.
The show was officially over.
Whereas, in the other cases, only the episode was over, or the season was over.

Island wasnt purgatory. It should have but writers lost their nuts.
If the island was purgatory what was the sideverse? Purgatory the sequel where you went after dying in purgatory 1?

Sure because we all forgot it started with a plane crash.

Probably all of the electromagnetism, you know, what the DHARMA Initiative was there to study.

there are other answers that don't have to be lucase-esque
besides, the force isn't an analogy to an actual concrete thing that is an active character in a drama

if you choose to take it like that then have fun. i took it as "this is where they came from or started from".

Yup. Losties won't admit it, but Cuse and Lidelhof are laughing.
About what? That we figured out early on that the Island was purgatory, so they changed it slightly, but in the end got the exact same result they were looking for? OK, if they're laughing, then I'm laughing with them.

Not really, since I really said the only thing disappointing was I felt sad that Locke didn't get Helen and his legs for real.
I haven't said I thought the episode was disappointing. In fact the 3 weeks I have been joining the fun in this threads I have never attacked the show as lame or not entertaining.
You guys just go crazy over any criticism.

dude
the importance of jack doing this is because it shows his faith. he's finally given up rationality for faith
you can establish jack finding faith in many ways that make a whole lot more sense that aren't as silly as some evil boogey man will appear (even though MIB, the representation fo this evil, is dead). and we swear this time the "bad stuff" will happen

Crap. I need to sleep.
Ok, think about it like this: Give me one scene/event, involving, your choice, Jacob or MIB and one other character, and I'll give you a rough idea of how you remove Jacob/MIB from the story.
and i say there is no story without them.

Ever seen a movie with more at the end of the credits?
You are just stating what you feel, which certainly could be right but it is based on NO REAL FACTS.
