where did the original "others" come from? Eloise and Charles' others. we saw them in the forties on the island. why where they there in the first place and why did they feel the need to bring a bomb?

I thought the bomb came from the U.S. Military that was on the island.

Great episode and saves what had been a lackluster season.
Retarded.

Christian and Locke are dead. Who was using their bodies? Jacob or the other guy in black?

If next season doesn't take place in black rock pirate times I will be pissed.

I agree with this.
I think next season will start over from where the first episode of the series started, and they'll essentially do all of the same things and be in the same situations, they'll just be more informed and prepared and will make better/correct decisions to correct things and reach teh end that Jacob was talking about. Now that 5 seasons of groundwork have been laid out, the audience is informed enough that next season can essentially hit on everything at such a fast pace that everything will be covered and still make sense. That would be cool.
This season has been incredible. Makes me think back on shite like that episode when they spent half the show telling us why Jack got his tattoos and shite, and how bad some of those were.
Also, I don't think Satan/Black is trying to get into Heaven. I think he's just trying to defeat Jacob/God. The classic good vs. evil battle royale, which this show has centered a lot on.

I think it is safe to say that Mr. "Black" = smokey. Mr. Black/Smokie obviously uses dead bodies to manifest himself...therefore taking the form of Locke when his body is returned to the island. Notice when Ben goes down to the temple that Locke isnt there when Alex shows up. Alex/smokey manipulates Ben to follow Lockes instructions ensuring the death of Jacob. Then Locke reappears.
All these "dead" people that we are seeing is Mr. Black trying to manipulate the losties in this game.
That definitely makes sense. Especially since Hurley seems to see the most dead people, and he is one of, if not THE easiest to manipulate.

So if the guy in Black somehow got into Lockes body as the "loophole", and Locke's body was the substitute for Christian Sheppard on 316, does that mean that Blackie got into Christian on 815? So was that him steering Locke to turn the wheel....sending him back to the mainland....to die....so he could get into his body and kill Jacob?
And since this new Locke talked Richard into going to tell time travelling, shot Locke that he had to die....that was self serving also, right?
That makes tons of sense as well. Except that I think it may have been Jacob using Christian to get back to the island, and not Blanocke (Black Non Locke). That's why Christian told Locke at the wheel that he could speak for Jacob, and that's why he sent Locke off the island to bring Jack and company back...to try to make things right, because he believes that people are inherently good and has faith in their "progress."
quote:
I think I figured out the "loop hole"
If the leader of the others dies then the previous leader becomes leader. That's why Widmore wanted to Kill Ben, so that he can become leader. (Widmore became leader when Elli left to raise Faraday)
Ben kills Locke to go back to the island and become leader, but when he wakes up and sees Locke, he thinks it hasn't worked.
Now Richard said that only the leader can have audience with Jacob, that's why NonLocke tells Ben to come with him.
My guess is that only the leader can kill Jacob, so that's why nonLocke coerces Ben into Killing Jacob, thereby using the "loophole"
This is interesting as well.
Lots of good shite on page 20 of this thread...

looks like i was wrong about the statue being the preggo hippo and it is really Sobek.
quote:
The god Sobek, which was depicted as a crocodile or a man with the head of a crocodile was a powerful and frightening deity; in some Egyptian creation myths, it was Sobek who first came out of the waters of chaos to create the world.[1] As a creator god, he was occasionally linked with the sun god Ra.[1]
quote:
Gradually, Sobek also came to symbolize the produce of the Nile and the fertility that it brought to the land;

So i wonder if all the losties that were killed off going to return?
My one very small complaint about that episode was Jacob....He was a bit of a puss and was killed way to easily...

i wonder if the volcano theory will resurface next season. the clues would be the ash around the cabin, burning Jacob in crater-like fire pit, smokey coming from under the temple and many past references like Ben's teacher Olivia mentioning the long ago eruption, Rosseau's map with crater marked on it, both the places that the island is supposed to be (Sunda Trench in the Indian Ocean and somewhere in the Pacific Ocean) are along the volcanic ring of fire, Dr. Cheng’s three pseudonyms relate to fire (CANDLE, WICKmund, HalliWAX).
i don't know

It really is. And Jacob even "touched" him. Either it backfired on him or something because Jacob recognized Locke as the evil force from the opening scene.
Did anyone else feel like when Jacob touched Locke he was bringing him back to life. Locke is completely out after falling eight stories and Jacob touches him. Locke wakes up and Jacob says "I'm sorry this happened to you."
Here's where I'm going. The show has used sacrifice as a huge theme. Maybe Jacob brought Locke back to life because he knows Esau/NonLocke was going to use Locke to kill him. Jacob knows that he has to sacrifice himself in order to "end" the game - hence, the opening scene and the comment "It's not over until the end, everything else is progress."
Maybe this episode was supposed to make everyone think that Locke was just a vessel for evil, when, in actuality, he's part of a bigger plan.
I want to go back and watch the episode where the do Locke's flashback of falling out the window. I want to see if any of the doctors make a comment like "its a miracle" or "you should be dead."

My Thoughts:
(1) Richard is the Holy Spirit. He is an advisor working for the others on Behalf of Jacob, but can't overcome free will...he has to do whatever the "leader" wants
(2) Smokey is definitely NotLocke; Satan. Obviously he can take over dead bodies. He tricked Ben into thinking he had to do whatever Locke said. BUT ultimately he killed Jacob out of free will and hate, not an order.
(3) The loophole is that Richard only has to listen the leader and Satan can only take over dead bodies. So, Satan took over a body that Richard thought was the leader.
(4)Jacob had a backup plan (telling Richard to try to limit one person at most in the statue), but again Richard has to listen to the leader no matter what
(5) That was pure awesomeness

Then you missed the whole point of the episode. God vs. Satan. Free Will vs. Destiny.
Anywhere in the New Testament that someone knew their fatal destiny, had the power to stop it, and let it happen? Hmmmmmm.

I'm still not sure that wasn't Mr. Black in Christian. He had to get Locke to leave, because Locke had to be dead and come back on 316 for him to "use" his body.
I just don't get how he knows all these moments in Locke's past. He remembers the hatch door and meeting Ben for the first time. Plus other small details of what happened where (Cabin meeting with "Jacob" which I now think was Mr. Black crying for help).
Plus anyone else find the whole scene where Nadia gets killed wierd? That's the only scene where Jacob "hurts" somebody. Although you could say he "helped" Sayid by saving him. But a SUV runs Nadia over. But then there is another car in the background that turns and flees the scene. You get a glimpse of the driver but I can't tell if it is anyone significant.
