Ben probably sold her on the idea bc ultimately Claire's Mom wants Claire to come back from the island and Ben convinced her that if she just did what he said he could make that happen? Also, Ben himself would not win a custody battle for Aaron and when Kate visited Ben's lawyer, he said the boy will be taken from you.
what reason would she have for believing ben could do this?

From the picture of Faraday's book, notice the two cones meeting at the vertex, on the opposite page of the red writing.

I wonder if walt is included since he left with Ben's blessing. Not sure he counts.
So the real question is, everytime they saw someone on the island, pre Oceanic 6, ie. Walt.....
Will it be Walt from the future? Kinda like when "future" Sawyer was watching "Past" Kate and Claire.
And the Same with the wispers?
A few of my guesses...
1) We were seeing and hearing the "future" characters when they were imagining people.
2) Every Losties parent was on the island previously
3) I also believe that Christian is "Jacob"

What if Jin is the doctor from the orientation videos and he had some sort of plastic surgery?

Thats quite a stretch
Plsu we know Jins father and mother and neither are old enough to have had him back in the 50s

Yeah I know, I'm just trying to come up with different stuff and not saying the same, "I think..." scenarios over and over.

Calire's mom probably doesn't know whats going. Ben needed her there for the purposes of the custody battle, but I doubt he would actually tell her what's going on.
Keep in mind Ben need Kate to keep the kid. Here's Ben plan as far as I can see it
His plan is to get the samples from Kate and bring forward Claire's mother being in LA to Kate and tell her he is behind the legal actions and he can make them stop, but only if she comes to the island.
On the other hand if he tells Claire's mother what's going on I doubt she just goes "Oh cool my granddaughter, well have fun going to some strange island with him."

What if Claires mother is an "other"???

Possible I suppose either way as I said Ben rarely just throws out the plan to everyone around and trusts them.
It makes much more sense to threaten Kate then approach her and explain to her that Claire's mom is around and that she can either
1) Go back to the island with Aaron
2) Give Aaron up.

I agree 100% with that.

Desmond didn't recognize him because they hadn't technically met yet. They only met when he was flashing between times which is why it was possible for them to meet. There was nothing to trigger the memory like he had on the boat with Penny.
Right. They hadn't met until that specific "time" when Daniel banged on the door. That's why as soon as that happened, Desmond woke up (in the present time) and was like "It wasn't a dream, it was a memory."

I have a question. The talk about Walt coupled with the fact that Sun has a gun and will (presumably) try to kill Ben (or Jack I guess) next episode has made me think.
COULD Sun kill Ben?
Remember when Michael tried to off himself and the gun wouldn't fire? He was told that the island would not let him kill himself. How does that all fit in with the newly defined time travel stuff? Are we to believe that someone went back in time and put duds in his gun because they knew he was going to attempt suicide or could it be something else?

I think I may have just come up with an explination for my question.
I guess, with the whole you can't change the past/future stuff the Others knew that he had to take the freighter and do all the bomb stuff so they knew he couldn't kill himself. That would alter the future and time/space would not allow it.
I guess

I've been wondering if Ben needs to die in order to return to the island, much in the same way that Locke has to die in order get back to the island. This has to do with the fact the Ben (and I assume Locke too) had to move the wheel to move the island and became "banished" under the "rules" set by the island. I think that the loophole to getting back to the island for them is to go back dead. When they finally reach the island (which will probably be at a point in time that predates their death off the island), they become "alive" again a la Christian Sheppard.
Edit: my point is that maybe Ben set things up to where he knows that Sun will kill him, giving him a ticket back to the island.

Do you guys think that this entire show has been planned from the beginning?
With reference to Christian, when he died and was on the flight, do you think the writers knew this far in advance that he would have been on the island earlier in his life and time travel would bring him back to life?
If this was all thought out, I'm impressed by their imaginations.
If their winging it, I'm even more impressed that they find ways to tie stuff in that happened four or five seasons ago perfectly with what is going on right now.

The creators have said they will reveal stuff from the beginning that proves they knew where they were going the whole time.

Yep. There is something from the pilot.
I am thinking when Jack wakes up it has something to do with time travel.
Either that or the white and black stones.

Ive read in the pilot episode.... but fwiw, I dont think there could be enough in the pilot to prove they knew where they were going.
Now if it was a few big instances in the first season, then yeah. But there is always a way to tie in a single instance.
