There's no way anyone will believe them if they tell the truth except for crazy conspiracy buffs and people who have previously heard of the Island. I don't think they have much of a choice but to stay on the Island or go back into hiding and change their appearances greatly, since it would certainly go down as one of the greatest conspiracy theories ever and all of them would be almost instantly recognizable to most of the world.

If you were one of a handful of people tasked with saving all of humanity, I doubt you'd focus your concern on the possible legal consequences of your success.

If Des is shifting in and out, and life paths are changing, I would take it (if the ring was intentional) that something is literally changing his past and present at a moments' notice.

Again, with only 6 episodes left, I think they really need to be careful with just how many realities/parallel universes they expose us to. They don't need to get too bogged down in complicated quantum physics.

Then the Oceanic Six's case will be they decided to leave 70 people behind, but for some reason there is an additional few passengers from Flight 815 on board like Jin, Sawyer, and Claire (and she's a very nice thing to add to the formula being Aaron's mother), plus Miles coming right out the frick from nowhere. They could hold them for a while while they build their case. People wouldn't know quite how to handle this for a while. Even if they are somehow able to pull this off, I think there would be a large number of lawsuits from the families of the people they supposedly left behind, and maybe some additional 815 families thrown in there as well.

If that were their main concern right now, then they wouldn't hesitate to blow up the plane and stay on the Island.

Your logic assumes way too much. First, only MIB has hinted that his line of escape is by use of the plane, a idea only known to a very select few.

Second, we aren't even sure if this is his only method of escape.

But I agree with Matt that Kate is absolutely the only one who should remotely be worried and even she was pardoned or whatever. I'm sure they'll all be questioned, but the U.S. government has neither a crime to charge or the jurisdiction with which to charge it imho.

Kate will be jailed regardless for leaving the State and kidnapping a baby and claiming it as her own. But it would really only be a matter of time before one of them cracked (specifically Hurley) to where they could charge them with something besides Kate.

Thats irrelevant to my reasoning since I'm going by the character's, not MIB's mindset.

This might actually be a better explanation and I think there is some evidence for this. I am reminded of when time-skipping Daniel got Desmond to come out of the Hatch and told him to go find his mother. In the next flash-forward, Desmond wakes up from a dream with this recollection. Also, I think that the flash-sideways Sayid changed from a very nice, "would do anything for anyone" kind of guy into someone that is more like the "sick" Sayid when he runs into Jin in the freezer during The Package. These are just two examples that come to me off the top of my head and I'm sure there is more to support your idea.

So I think we have seen some events from one timeline having an effect on other timeline(s). However, I think whatever it is that is affecting Desmond could be much more monumental if it is causing such a change in the flash-sideways.

The vast majority of the characters don't know that's MIB's plan. So it would be unreasonable to think that they would immediately want to destroy the plane. They have no idea how he plans to get of the island.

Just wanted some of your thoughts on this...

If the candidates are supposed to be protected, why did the others blow up the raft when they took Walt?

What if Jin was the Kwon candidate and he drowned?

Also, in the many shoot outs the others had with Jack and company, weren't the others worried about accidentally killing a candidate?

What about when Ben told them to shoot Sayid, Jin and Bernard on the beach? Was that an order from Jacob?

We know that Ben was aware of the future events, thus why he had them build the runway for the Ajira flight to land on. Surely, he must have know that Jin and Sayid were possible candidates.

Why did Whitmore's men have orders to kill everyone on the island?

Whitmore talks about how special Desmond is and how he can save the world, but he had ordered Desmond's death when he sent Kearney and his men to the island.

Also, I thought it was neat how they had Sawyer throw the ring he had for Juliet in the ocean the same way Desmond did with Penny's.

What if Jin was the Kwon candidate and he drowned? Jin didn't drown. Everyone can see him on the island in island reality time, so he's not dead.

Also, in the many shoot outs the others had with Jack and company, weren't the others worried about accidentally killing a candidate? See number 1

What about when Ben told them to shoot Sayid, Jin and Bernard on the beach? Was that an order from Jacob? No, that was a play by Ben to stop Widmore from returning to the island. Ben did that on his own.

We know that Ben was aware of the future events, thus why he had them build the runway for the Ajira flight to land on. Surely, he must have know that Jin and Sayid were possible candidates. Ben doesn't know as much as we thought he did. He doesn't remember Sayid shooting him as a child, which he should since his reality wasn't warped like it was for Sayid when the island skipped back to the 70's. It was Sayid's present (thus he would not remember) but it was Ben's past. However, Richard also said Ben wouldn't remember anything before being shot. Also, see #1 as I don't believe Ben knew about Jacob's plans for replacement.

Why did Whitmore's men have orders to kill everyone on the island? I don't know

Also, I thought it was neat how they had Sawyer throw the ring he had for Juliet in the ocean the same way Desmond did with Penny's. Yeah, that seems like the style of Lost, to remind viewers of past scenes.

I don't know about that. In Season 3, Mikhail refers to "a list" that came from Jacob and he says that Locke, Kate and Sayid are not on that list because they aren't "good" (they are angry, afraid, etc...). Obviously with what we now know, whatever list Mikhail was referring to was changed. I really think this is the writers screwing up. I guess they could correct it and say that list was for something else, but it certainly seemed that whoever wasn't on that list (in Season 3), wasn't worth saving. And there were candidates who were not on that list.

You know what, you're right. Also remember that Ethan didn't want to kill the one guy that Ana Lucia trapped in the hole in the ground. Right before she killed him, he told her that he was a bad guy.
