Has anyone compared the rock richard gave the mib to the rock that zombie locke took off the scales in the cave and threw in the ocean?

It was the 666th post in the thread.

I've been thinking about the test that Richard gave Locke when he was young. Richard specifically asks him "Which of these already belong to you?"

Now if we are to assume that this is a test to see if someone is a candidate, that must mean that these are Jacobs items. This would seem to indicate that all of this has happened to them before, in another life? in another timeline?

If this is true, this would lend further evidence toward a "reset" theory. They've all done this before or at least in a very similar way.

Great episode last night!! but for what reason did Jacob bring the Black Rock to the island? It wasnt for a list of candidates, there were no survivors after MIB went through the ship, except for Richard. Did he bring the ship there just for Richard? He didnt seem to be in his plans until after he beat the shite out of him and talked to him a bit

Richard would have killed him if he didn't beat the shite out of him first.

What did that have to do with what i asked?

1) Once jacob died, Richard seemed to believe Jacob lied to him and the MIB was telling the truth that he was in hell. If richard believed he was already in hell... why would he try to kill himself with the dynamite?

Yep they are certainly making all of this up as they go along and have no clue what is going to happen 2 episodes from now.

Yeah, but like Jacob said to Ben, "You don't have to do this. It's still your choice." What if none of the candidates wants the job and they all say frick it and leave? What happens then? MIB is continuously trying to get people on his side by promising things. I expect it to continue. I'm sure one (or more) will stand up to him. Even though it would make for a bad story, the possibility still exists that none of them choose to take Jacob's position.

In the very least I think Hurley would take the job. The others I could certainly see doing, but Hurley is being very loyal right now.

I also want to point out that every time someone asks Richard, "How long have you been alive?" or "How long have you been doing this?" He always says, "longer than you can imagine." I'm sorry people, 1867 is NOT longer than I can imagine. Yet another piece that says they've been there, done that, again, and again, and again.

I think doing a job for 140 years is longer than most people would imagine.

I've always leaned toward the idea that this hasn't been their first go around.

Maybe so. The way he says it always gives me the impression that he doesn't exactly know how long he's been doing it. To me, "longer than you can imagine" means that the time period is beyond what words can express. I can express "I've been doing this 140 years." It's impossible to fathom "I've been doing this an infinite amount of times."

Maybe all MIB has to do is get all the candidates to willingly leave the island. Maybe he doesn't have to kill them. He will tempt them with things they love (which he does all the time) to get them to leave with him. Maybe that's why Luke Ch 4 was what Ricardo was reading. The temptation of Christ.

Maybe the alternate reality is if they left the island with MIB. Perhaps he granted the them the things they wanted but they also let smokie out into the world at large causing havoc.

Perhaps jacob will give the 6 a choice to either accept that life or sacrifice that reality and stay on the island and keep smokie contained.

That's what OLM was saying earlier (top of the page).

I realize you're being sarcastic, but you don't have to put spoiler if it's your own theory. If you got it from another site under the "spoilers" section, then it would be nice to see a spoiler warning.

More specifically I'm thinking that the sinking of the Island may have "sunk the cork" so to say and MIB has now been set free. I'm not specifically saying it is if he leaves with the Candidates, although it is possible.
