We know Dogen told Sayid to stab Locke before he let him speak. MIB told Richard the same. Sayid let Locke speak, then stabbed him, so it didn't kill him.

Didn't Jacob speak to Ben before he stabbed him?

maybe because jacob wanted/needed to die?so he let it kill him. i'm guessing someone who grants eternal life can manage to choose to die if they want to.

but it would seem that the conversation they have on the beach about how badly he (MIB) wants to kill jacob takes place first. then, the conversation they have in the jungle last night happened after. meaning MIB sent richard to kill jacob knowing he can't kill them. is that the loophole?

that would explain why jacob hangs out in the statue (if its true no one can enter without his say) otherwise if jacob hangs out in the open he would just be constantly fighting off attempts on his life by whoever MIB sends at him.

so really MIB finds the loophole when the black rock lands, not when ben stabs him.

Maybe it was the first time that MIB tried to use a human to kill Jacob and it caught him by surprise. Basically, MIB taking the game to the next level.
