Were they mainstream releases
TV movies. Made in like 1984 and 1985
I remember enjoying them when I was a kid back then, but i'm sure I'd think they are awful now

Its just amazing how much the franchise has been soiled for the sake of merchandising.

When you see highest grossing movies ever its no surprise they're reviving Star Wars. I guess we'll just have to cherish Episodes 4-6 even more.

It makes sense since virtually nothing is known about Palpatine or Yoda's background.

Yeah, but some characters aren't meant to have that known about them. The mystery is alot of the intrigue behind them, and to answer it takes alot of that away. Really adding motives to the Emperor besides being really god damn evil takes from his character. I don't see anything we can get from Yoda's backstory that would be relevant to what is going on during the original trilogy.

This is really not what I had in mind with Star Wars stand alone films. I was thinking more on the line of Knights of the Old Republic
I feel the same way.
I'm hoping that a lot of these rumors don't turn out. I can see them doing Han/Boba but they've got a younger generation locked in to the prequels and that Clone Wars show on CW which is full of new characters. I still think we'll see more new than old.

I'd like to see a Boba Fett movie

I always pictured Yoda as bigger and badass when he was young. Almost like the Hulk, lightning fast Jedi chopping it up. Old age made him small and wrinkly. Like a green testy

I just don't care if they make some bad ones as long as the occasional gem comes out in between.. They have a whole universe to storyline and can gear them to different audiences.. The franchise itself is an oversold merchandisers haven and I'm fine with that especially if it gives them the desire to come up with creative new characters blended within. Personally, I'd like to learn more about Moff Tarkin, maybe the sand people or the Tuskgann Raiders. The possibilities are endless and that's why I love the disney buy.. They have the resources and ability to make some cool shite.

a yoda movie set in the times of the old republic or dealing perhaps with the origins of hte force would be very cool. We don't need a palpatine movie. his character has nothing left to offer. are they going to show us how he killed his master in his sleep? ooooh, lets make a whole movie about that? terrible idea

Disney is going to give us some bad star wars movies
Agreed. They need to focus on continuing the story and not venture off into all these other areas. There can be too much of a good thing.

Naboo as a planet is fine, its just how over the top Lucas wanted to make it for the love story. It's just so incredibly unsubtle I couldn't believe it. Padme's dominatrix outfit may be the most unsubtle and inappropriate thing I've seen put to sci fi universe. Seriously, you're trying to not tempt him with sex in something that has a dog collar attached to it? If there's ever been a dress that says "frick me right now, god damn it!", this is it.
You really need to watch the robot chicken star wars movie. It's hilarious.

Can someone explain to me why Boba fet is such an intriguing character? I remember before the release of episodes 1-3, there was all this hype about boba fet. Boba fet has a total of maybe 10 minutes of screen time and he dies rather undramatically and very quickly.
The whole entry of boba fet into episodes 1-3 seemed rather unnecessary.

I'm actually looking forward to a Palpatine film. He is my favorite character, and I would love seeing his rise to power as a Sith.

i was thiking of stand alone films, but a pre-prequel about the emperor would be badass , like when he trains with plagieus
Posted on 2/19/13 at 9:43 am to WhoDats10
but a knights of republic would be better

Regarding the emperor: this. Less is more.
When we go for more with the emperor, what we get is the emperor as protagonist, which will surely delve into what turned him evil, etc.
The emperor works better as a character if there is NO audience sympathy for him. By creating an understanding or identification with his motives, you undermine his position as an antagonist in the other six films.
He's better off as a pinnacle of malice. We don't need to know what childhood trauma caused his turn to the Dark Side. Doing that also makes him a more central character of the other six films, and that draws away from the main characters that are already established (and not developed enough as it is!). Keep the emperor as a supporting character to Vader's loop.
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I believe any of the movies based on the Dark characters (the emperor, Boba Fett, Jabba) would be a mistake. I can't see Disney making a movie about an evil or "bad" character being the protagonist. They would have to make him "good" (at least temporarily) in order to make the film palatable for audiences, and that would destroy those characters' place in the original movies.

From a character standpoint, yes, Yoda is the more interesting character. He was 800 years old so there is so much you could do with that. However, there are some serious challenges to having Yoda be your main character and I certainly don't want to see Yoda bouncing all over the place with his tiny lightsaber

You get it why an Emperor movie is a terrible, terrible idea. He is merely evil incarnate and doesn't need a backstory whatsoever.
