Elliot Page's The Odyssey role has seemingly been revealed. Now that we know who he's playing, it makes the controversy surrounding his inclusion in the film even more ridiculous.
Page has been involved Nolan's latest movie for some time now, but his role in the movie was shrouded in mystery. According to a listing for the movie on Into Film, Page will be playing the role of Sinon, a Greek warrior who is Odysseus's cousin. What he does in the film is still unknown, however.
With Page's role in the film seemingly confirmed, many have looked back on the controversy surrounding his casting. While it seemed silly even at the time, it now looks even more so given what his role ended up being.
Over the past few months, since Page's casting was announced, social media had been filled with accounts criticizing The Odyssey. Following the release of its official trailer in May, rumors began circulating about two specific actors: Elliot Page and Lupita Nyong'o.
For Page, rumors began circulating that he would be playing the ghost of Achilles, the mythological hero of the Trojan War who is recognized as one of the greatest Greek warriors ever. As for Nyong'o, criticism about her part in the movie began after it was revealed she would be playing Helen of Troy.
Trolls across social media have largely been attacking the movie for its casting choices. While some are genuinely unhappy with historical inaccuracies, the large majority of complaints have essentially been deriding the movie as "woke," with a large portion of criticism simply being based on the fact that Page is a trans man potentially playing the role of a major figure in Greek mythology.

The only people who thought it would be Achilles are people who enjoy being outraged.

Those guys will pull out the ole reliable “well things are so crazy these days don’t you think it’s bad enough that it COULDVE been true?”
Some guys are fighting the 2010s era culture wars like the stories of Vietcong fighters who still thought the war was happening 20 years later

Well, as the world’s biggest Sinon fan, I take this very personally. Now my neck tattoo has an embarrassing connection and I don’t know what I’m supposed to tell my twin boys Sinon and Braxton.

So she's playing the part of a man?
Posted on 6/27/26 at 8:30 pm to RLDSC FAN
a Greek warrior
No, she's not any such thing. It's retarded for a 5'1" skinny girl to play any male warrior role.

“Woke” is,and always has been, a weak and mostly meaningless criticism…

I wouldn’t expect her to accept any future female roles.

Wrong
the large majority of complaints have essentially been deriding the movie as "woke," with a large portion of criticism simply being based on the fact that Page is a trans man potentially playing the role of a major figure in Greek mythology.
She’s not any type of a man.
The woke part also includes a mid black actress playing Helen of Troy, a Greek , among other issues.

The complaints have been from trailer 1
- body armor, vernacular (daddy) (let’s go!)
- casting of Helen and the creation of her twin (played by the same actress)
- Nolan’s hypocritical statements on using things that didn’t exist in the era while using rap and other modern musical tech
- Page’s casting as a warrior or ghost of one
- using a politically feminist adaptation of the actual story
Elliot wasn’t near the top of the list of complaints but the memes were hilarious and those were popular

For you guys, arguing that it would be fine if it was Achilles. The other side was about 2% believing it would happen and the rest arguing it would be stupid. There are threads on the topic, you can pull from that but it’s always easier to start fresh with a thread pushing the BS narrative.
