I just disagree - it had some cools scenes but a couple of the kylo and rey scenes are all i found actually compelling. For me it was really just a poorly done re-hash of ANH.
Rogue One was head and shoulders better for my money.
It left great cliffhangers.
TLJ threw all of them out.
That is why it’s rewatchability is so damn hurt. You know what is going to happen with those points now.

Personally I am fine with Luke's character in TLJ - its not what I would have done but i get it (no need to get into a discussion about this, just how i feel and the back and forth on this topic has been done to death).
Kylo and Rey were great in TLJ, again IMO, it was all the other noise and bullshite that made it a poor movie.
The only real thing it left that they bailed on is killing Snoke but what else did it leave for us in y our opinion? - genuinely asking.
ETA: I see the above post about Rey's background - this was something i never cared about. The little orphan kid with an important lineage is incredibly played out in the genre and basically the same thing we had in ANH.
I think when it is all said and done - if her just being a random kid without an important lineage hold firm - it may be sort of the point of "The Force Awakens" as force users become more prevalent in the galaxy again (see the final scene of TLJ when the little kid force pulls the broom). At least this is the direction I hope they go in.

I was watching it with the family over Christmas, and I was enraged throughout. There’s no way in hell Abrams thought in that final shot that Luke’s next action would be to throw the lightsaber over his shoulder. I do not envy Abrams having his dick caught in his hands for Episode IX.

What was some of the biggest things people were talking about after TFA that littered this message board:
Who the hell is Snoke? answer after TLJ: who gives a shite
Where did Rey come from (who are her parents)? answer after TLJ: who gives a shite
Are we going to see Luke the badass jedi now that they found him and brought him his light saber? answer after TLJ: frick that light sword
there were youtube videos and message boards going crazy like never before after TFA, theorizing what would happen in the next movie. We get the next movie and no one is talking about the story anymore, or what will happen next. NO ONE.

Those points sucked. We thought we knew what was going to heppen with them after TFA. It was too predictable. The Last Jedi had a lot of spots that were just terrible, but the fact that it threw those out is something I like about it. Just maybe not the way Johnson did it.
