Unfortunately the franchise isn't quite turning into the Hunger Games success story they were hoping for, so Lionsgate is forgoing releasing the next film in the series (Ascendant) in theaters and instead will turn it into a TV movie. From there they hope to create its own standalone television series.

Wow. Crazy how many dystopian properties are out there. I guess they kinda had to make the 2nd movie and now they are at a place where they can pull the theatrical plug.

But I have even more news for you! My wife went to college with a girl who writes, you guessed it, a young adult dystopian future series and apparently she has done well with it and its movie rights just got picked up. So get ready for more

Woodley was terrible casting, particularly due to her strangeness.

Coming off The Descendants she seemed like a good call I guess. I imagine she has done pretty good harm to her career with these movies. Got paid though

Thank god. Please let this series die and never return.

Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight were all incredibly successful. But there seem to be about 10 failed young adult dystopian future movies in the last 10 years. I guess it's worth the cost if you eventually hit on another Hunger Games or Twilight. The primary issue, however, is that every single one of these save Harry Potter is utter, utter crap. The writing is absolutely atrocious, the plotlines ridiculous, and the romance that all of these books revolve around is vomit-inducing.

This genre is dying out already. Teens have moved onto something else I guess.

I would think she did that when she was on Secret Life of the American Teenager

The GF made me watch this shite series.

I can't blame Woodley for any of her acting when the plot and more specifically her characters choices are so horribly written.

Lionsgate is cutting their losses and banking on Power Rangers as the next big franchise. They plan on up to 7 movies in the series.

And it showed also. Twilight was in the same boat. The first Hunger Games and Twilight did amazingly well at the box office. The sequels had big opening weeks and petered out after that. They had very little repeat viewings.

Harry Potter and those other movies should not be in the same sentence.

As an old guy, I always thought it was kind of sad that teenagers were reading all this stuff that suggested such a bleak future. I mean, I grew up with Star Trek, Doctor Who, stuff that showed a bright future. Yeah, you had things like 1984 and Blade Runner, but for the most part it was all about how science will make our lives better in the future. Not a world where attractive teenagers are running around a wasteland.

Only one of those named is about a dystopian future, the others are modern/present day fantasy or fantasy/horror.

May be a tad optimistic.

She fricked it up with that terrible haircut, plain and simple.

Don't know why you got a downvote Leon. You're right.

I downloaded a free sample of twilight. Holy hell its bad.

I read the Hunger Games books. I have to admit the first book was good. Really good. Second was okay. Third was terrible.

Read the first Divergent. It's bad. Never read anymore.

I kind of like the Percy Jackson movies, but I guess they didn't do well enough and Percy had bigger fish to fry.

Insurgent was a poor man's Hunger Games and Woodley is a poor man's Jennifer Lawrence.

Woodley also wasn't in good enough shape to make her character believeable.

She's not fat obviously but if you're going to open the third movie with her climbing up the side of a huge arse building then she should at least have some definition in her muscles.
