Let's talk about Remember the Titans

This movie is the perfect example of why I hate films that loosely throw around the phrase, "based on a true story." About the only true things found in this movie are that there was a T.C. Williams football team, and in 1971 they won the state championship, while also being coached by a man named Herman Boone. That's essentially where the historical accuracies of this film come to an end.
It's crazy how much this movie gets wrong about the story surrounding the '71 Titans. For one...the real story isn't that interesting to begin with. Alexandria schools integrated all the way back in 1965 and yet the movie is trying to tell us they desegregated in '71 and that the climate was similar to that of Birmingham circa 1963. While there were still tensions, most of the guys from the ACTUAL '71 Titans say there was very little overt racism going on between the players on the team. And then you have the pesky little fact that this team was loaded with All-State talent. They finished #2 in the country for high school football for a reason. That state championship which came down to the final play in the film was actually a snooze fest in real life (T.C. Williams won 27-0).
I could list all of the inaccuracies found in this film, but I feel the Deadspin article below (from the year 2014), will do a much better job at shedding some light onto this movie:

I realize movies exist to entertain us and to send messages. But I really do hate it when a film plays fast and loose with the facts of a true story drama. Remember the Titans is one of modern film's most egregious offenders in that regard.

Friday Night Lights might be worse as far as inaccuracies

Was about to post the same thing. Real life Charlie Billingsley was not anywhere near the level of the Tim McGraw version. I've actually met Don Billingsley and that was his biggest complaint about the movie. He said his dad was strict for sure but never abused him.

Remember the Titans...where they take a high school located about 10 minutes from the White House and make it seem that it is located in some rural county in Alabama.

Yeah, it's hard to believe they didn't film the boring version.

Hayden Panitierres character was the worst thing about the movie, the inaccuracies are second.

Does it being inaccurate take away from it being a good MOVIE?
You don't Hollywood so good.

Eh don't really care about the inaccuracies because even with that it doesn't stop it from being the G.O.A.T. football movie.

I get what you are saying, but I will watch the movie anytime it is on.

So you really only have one gripe. That they made a statement that said based on a true story. So if they never had that one sentence, it’s a good movie all of a sudden? That seems dumb to bitch about

Indeed. The movie has a good story, good soundtrack, and I enjoy it every time it's on.

Boone ended up in real life not quite being the heroic figure he's portrayed to be.

It doesn't mean it wasn't based on a true story.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I'd want my likeness portrayed on screen as being a racist when I never was a racist. The fact of the matter is, the events portrayed in this film are almost 100% fabricated. I feel like there is a difference between dramatic license and fabrication. I don't have a problem with the former. All films based on true stories take some dramatic licenses with the story. But Remember the Titans straight up fabricates the vast majority of the events chronicled in the film (including the main theme of the movie). When you have to fabricate the main theme for a film based on a true story, you need to ask yourself if your story is even worthy of a movie to begin with.

I don't know why people think it's better than The Program.

Out of all the football sports movies that exist...i don't really complain much about this one.
Good movie. Not as good as the replacements but still solid.
I find the idea of Adam Sandler being an All Pro QB much more unbelievable and impossible to sit through
