Let's discuss the best that never was: JarJar Binks

Proof that JarJar is a misunderstood genius and we were all robbed of something that may have redeemed the entire Prequel Trilogy and may have even rivaled the "I am your father" moment.
As George Lucas has stated multiple times, the prequels were supposed to be a mirror of the Original Trilogy.
And as Lucas stated about Yoda: Yoda really comes from a tradition in mythological storytelling- fairy tales- of the hero finding a little creature on the side of the road that seems very insignificant and not very important, but who turns out to be the master wizard, or the master thing…” that character is noticeably absent from the prequels.
JarJar was supposed to be the prequel and Sith equivalent of Yoda and the architect of the downfall of the senate and democracy and true villain of the entire PT.
This amazing turn was even supposed to take place at the end of the second movie, which would mirror Empire, and leave you with a what in the holy frick I can't believe that just happened feeling as you walked out the theater for a new generation like Empire did for the last generation.
At the end of clone wars Yoda should've fought JarJar after a badass reveal, then everything else plays out the same. JarJar escapes while Yoda saves Obi-Wan and Anikan kills JarJar at the beginning of Revenge after he "kidnaps" Palpatine.
Even that scene in RotS would've been much more meaningful. Instead of some random asshat in Dooku pleading for his life and making Anikans decision to kill hard, you would have had JarJar pleading for his life.
JarJar who has known Anikan since he was 9,been with him most his life, and was actually liked by Anankin. When Anikan chooses to kill him and join the Emperor it makes that transition and decision that much more meaningful and powerful.
The thought of Anakin agonizing over the decision to kill Dooku doesn't even make sense. Jedi kill opponents all the time. The decision to kill a lifelong friend would've been much harder. Even if he was a bad guy now.
And again this mirrors the OT. Luke refused to kill Vader in the presence of the Emperor. Anakin didn't refuse to kill JarJar.
Dooku was never supposed to exist and was hastily written in when Lucas and the studio pussied out of the ultimate reveal.

Jar Jar as the pulling strings as a Sith Lord really would have been one of the most incredible moves ever.

Dooku and that robot baw with the lightsabers were both fricking horrible.

yall are making me relive painful memories.

I liked Dooku in theory.
But killing him off the way they did seemed like a big arse waste. I think it would have had far more impact if his death had been the climax of Ep2 than at the opening of Ep3.
Of course, I kind of was never much of a fan of that entire opening. It was a shitty way to reinforce that Anakin is a great pilot.
Grievous would have been much cooler if Lucas had dropped the silly coughing bit and not had the Jedi turn so completely overpowered to the point that it seems impossible he could have already bested so many in combat.

The most revealing thing is that Lucas turned out to be a fraud director despite his hitting lightening in a bottle once upon a time in a cinema far far away.
"Jar Jar is the key to this film" - George Lucas
And didn't he say Jar Jar was hilarious and his best character he created?
Man...Ewoks should have been a warning...we all got lucky someone else directed Empire Strikes Back.
No suprise its the best movie of the franchise.

Well I mean, Jar Jar will be back in episode 8, so it's all good

I remember reading something along these lines where JarJar was apparently supposed to be a gigantic piece in the prequels but ended up just an unliked footnote. That would have been pretty damn interesting.

Those were supposed to be Wookies.
And Lucas originally wanted Luke to put on Vader's helmet at the end of Jedi and slaughter the remaining rebels.

I’d be ok with that.

When are we gonna get some #metoo accusations about him?

yes, because we can just imagine Yoda "stepping in poopy" or licking a pod racer

People say this like they don't remember when we met Yoda on Degobah. It makes me question what you really remember from the OT.
Luke first meets Yoda

I remember being like 10 and creaming my pants when I saw that double-edged lightsaber.

Clone Wars/SW Rebels Darth Maul is one of the best Star Wars villains.

Should’ve kept him until Ep2 to make it somewhat watchable.

This thread only reminds me-suh of why I will never rewatch the Prequels.
However I did buy the deconstructed original theatrical release trilogy on blu ray.
