It looks really good and really sad. It's depressing to think that someone can be hard wired in such a way that he was always miserable, despite having money, fame, talent, public adoration and a small child.

They said it may release in select theaters. Hope they have some in Louisiana.

Totally agreed. Life is pretty strange.

Can't wait to check this out.

"Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich – yes, richer than a king –
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

"Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson

quote:

Radcliffe Squires

The suicide of Richard Cory is not, or ought not to be, a surprise. It is an inevitability, predetermined by the subjugation of selfhood. Even more significantly, however, the subjugated self reclaims itself in the act of suicide. Not that the poem recommends suicide as a way of asserting individuality. Rather, it observes an extreme gesture in an extreme case. To see the poem in this way is to see it as neither bitter nor negative, at least not entirely so. We read ill if we cannot see that Richard Cory is granted an oblique triumph at the end, for he has refused to suppose himself made happy by what "everyone" supposes will make him everyone happy. In short, Richard Cory’s self emerges neurotically perhaps; still it emerges triumphant over the imposed role of "success."

Pretty fricking apropos, if I don't say so myself. Have an upvote, btw.

Yeah anytime I mention him I get blasted over there. I posted it anyway. I would think if you're a Cobain hater, seeing this film will change your perspective.

Nah. The wannabe cool kids like to dog Kurt because its the thing to do or something, idk. Mainly because it was insinuated by alot of people for a long time that he invented the grunge grunge genre or something, which he didn't or claim to

I think his music holds up really well next to all the other Seattle bands from that time. And he is definitely an intriguing figure. Ive been a big fan since Bleach before FM radio drove all the nevermind and in utero sings into the ground and all

It looks awesome.

I loved Cobain and Nirvana. I avoid the music board because most everyone there shits on every artist that isn't the grateful dead or phish.

I can't wait to see this.

It really is. So many of the threads become IM jerkoff threads between the same half dozen or so posters. And at first I thought it'd be a great place to pick up on new music but that isnt the case either. Just constant jam band bro-gasm bullshite most of the time
