You have to remember that when Nevermind came out hair bands were still dominating MTV and the radio. Nirvana ushered in the popularity of other "grunge" bands, including Pearl Jam.

That differs from my vivid memories. They were bigger than Pearl Jam and after Nevermind they were bigger than GnR. Kurt Cobain might be the largest single influence on 90's pop culture. They also had a beef with Axl over a backstage incident at the VMA's (which was the result of Nirvana declining to open for them on tour).

In utero is horrible crap. The lyrics are lazy and most every track is just formulaic noise outside of penny royal tea which really isn't a good song.
Heart shape box had the trademark sing along hook but it didn't have real grounding.
Neverending and bleach are far far better albums.

I agree, I never really liked In Utero. Bleach is my favorite Nirvana Album, Nevermind was great too.
Come As You Are has always been my least favorite song on Nevermind, sucks that it's the one that gets played the most on the radio.

In Utero is better than Nevermind in my opinion. I prefer the production and the songs. Nevermind is way more "formulaic".
I really liked the documentary and the home movies didn't bother me at all. I didn't think they seemed really strung out or anything (aside from that clip of kurt holding frances).

I've always agreed with Kurt that Nevermind is a bit too poppy and 'Pixie-esque'. I love that album, and the Pixies, but In Utero is my favorite.

There is a home movie clip where one of them is holding Frances and you can see needles in the frame, not sure if they used it in this Documentary or not, I'm sure they did, but that one is really screwed up.

Overall, I thought that this was very interesting documentary. Kurt was definitely a very conflicted dude and it was interesting to see his POV of the world growing up. I was way too young to remember the rise of Nirvana. But do remember MTV replaying their acoustic session a number of years ago.

Who cares about the first week? Vs sold 6 million copies altogether, which is even less than Ten sold at 10 million.
Going by worldwide sales Nevermind sold 30 million copies which is more than Ten (17 Million) and Vs (10 million) combined.
Nirvana Unplugged in New York has sold 25, Million copies world wide, which again is almost double what Vs and Ten sold combined.

I only shite on Cobain as far as being mentioned as one of the most influential guitarists. I see him in a lot of those "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" lists. As a front man and what he did for the rock scene I have no problem with him being mentioned as one of the greats, because I agree with that based on the criteria. But as a guitarist (especially with me being one) I don't think he belongs in any of those guitar-specific lists. Nirvana isn't one of my favorites today, but they were one of the first rock bands I liked as a kid, and I recognize the influence they had as a band, with the grunge and angst. I'll definitely watch this film.
