cause he kinda sucks

Even his daughters have admitted that they have a "complicated" relationship with him.

But that is what makes this such an interesting role for Will Smith. Playing likable guys is almost every role he's ever played. Its good to see him get out of his comfort zone and play a guy that isn't particularly pleasant.

We watched it today. Really enjoyed it. When the new dude running the hood was checking on Richard and asking who the white boy was made me

From basically all the puff pieces I've read on this movie, they barely, if at all, mention that about the story.

I have a feeling that this movie is far too kind and sympathetic to Richard Williams, who, by all accounts, was even worse than all the tennis parents that he so reviled. Yes, I understand where he was coming from, but he was an egomaniacal, and pretty bad human being at times, who abandoned his other kids from prior relationships for his "stars" in Venus and Serena.

The film also kept trying to justify why he did the things he did, chalking it up to racism in the 40s and 50s in Shreveport. When in reality, he was just living through his kids trying to achieve what he never could.

Did his methods ultimately work? Yes, of course. But is what he did the model for how to be a parent? I think unequivocally no, yet he is protracted as some sort of triumphant hero.

In saying all that, I do think the movie was well acted and well done. You quickly forget that you're watching Will Smith, and the girls who played the kids were adorable and perfectly cast. Overall, the movie is worth seeing and will probably win Smith an Oscar, which is basically the entire reason the project got made. It's a classic Oscar-bait star vehicle for a big name actor.

I know nothing about the real story behind the Williams sisters. I did enjoy the movie and thought the who cast did a fantastic job. Great performance from Will Smith. Oscar worthy? Not sure.

You can not like Will Smith, but saying “no-talent” and making fun of his appearance makes me think you’re the a-hole.

Will Smith gonna get an Oscar nominee? I bet he will. Good portrayal

He will because the movie is Oscar bait. His overall performance was pretty good. His attempts at dumbed down word pronunciations were comical. Made me think of Steve Carell in The Office as Prison Mike.

Just saw this movie and while it was a little too long, I thought the movie was excellent.

Not a big Will Smith fan, but some movies he knocked it out of the park, and this was one of them. Thought he was great.

Never knew the extent of what Serena, Venus, and he had to go through to get where they got it life, but I thought their storyline was interesting. He seems like a great dad to me, but man that made him look like the most overbearing parent of all time.

I would place Will Smith in a medieval biopic, but I guess it worked with “Black Knight”

It is very entertaining if you can put your shite aside and watch it for what it is.

That has a lot to do with the year.

This year has Andrew Garfield and Benedict Cumberbatch in the running and there is buzz about DiCaprio but Don't Look Up is still a month out. Of the two other front runners now I say Smith's performance was ahead of theirs.

I will never understand people who post in threads of something they aren't interested in just to say they aren't interested.

It's weird.

I'm thankful that everyone doesn't share that valid "I won't watch that" opinion. The threads would be jammed with these attention seeking posts.
