I found all of that to be very confusing. I thought they'd spoken to the ex shortly after it happened and cleared him. Then, they talked like he was only finding out now that she died. It wasn't well presented at all.
Yeah, they definitely mentioned at one point that they cleared him as a suspect back in 1997 during a phone interview.
I guess it's possible that they called him to ask some questions about his whereabouts at the time, he had a solid alibi, and they never specifically mentioned why they were calling.
Seems very unlikely though. Almost as unlikely as the dude not being aware for almost 20 years that his ex-wife was murdered.

cringing at some of it on national TV.
I'm certain the family had to give approval for this to be brought on tv. So, they knew what they were getting into for the most part.

I think her killer died a few weeks ago-Derrick Todd Lee. All they found out with the DNA test is that he didn't frick her. The ex probably doesn't wanna give a DNA sample bc he and EB were fricking around while he was remarried. They even asked her friend if she thought they had been seeing each other before her death and she said yea. I don't think the ex husband did it and If I'm him I wouldn't wanna give a DNA sample either. Cheating on your wife isn't a crime and if they find his DNA in her panties, with all the press going on with this case, no way he'd get a fair trial.

What this show should actually be about is how bad the initial investigation was back in 97. Rodie must've been hitting the bottle pretty hard back then. A woman is murdered and her ex-husband is cleared as a suspect after one phone call?

Exactly what I'm thinking. Whether the guy wanted to talk to them or not, if someone is murdered, I'm pretty sure they can get an ex husband into the interrogation room. The fact that they clear a suspect that significant over the phone blows my mind. Also, I'm on board with the DTL theory. The fact that she lived 2 houses down from another of the victims was pretty telling to me. I don't know how, knowing that, you're as convinced as Rodie that its not DTL

Exactly. It was a piss poor investigation and why on earth would they allow the same incompetent idiot to lead the investigation I do not know.

Hey you watch your mouth about Rodie! He was having woman issues at the time!
Posted on 2/5/16 at 12:20 pm to lsugrad35
It's funny how they are totally suspicious of anyone totally unrelated to the case like that dude from the fence company and that guy who was in prison....but yet they take the word of a fat woman seeking attention who all of the sudden is coming up with brand new stuff 20 yes later

About the only closure we're going to get is closure to Rodie's 6th marriage and he might finish off that bottle of whiskey he's been nursing in his wifebeater all season.

In the trailer park, at night, in a wife beater, drinking whiskey?

Do you understand guys at all? We pretty much always think we look cool. Give me some whiskey and ask me to talk about myself? Well...since you asked so nicely.
And it only gets worse with age. I know plenty of old men who absolutely think they're cool as shite and don't feel an ounce of self-consciousness talking about themselves and their experiences.
