You're leaving out the worst part:

"Must be okay with getting pregnant with said man and selling your child into slavery."

I guess I was just assuming, just like most married couples don't spend 24 hours a day together, there would be plenty of time for her to escape almost daily too real friends/family, etc. Plus a bunch of production assistants to help really clean, cook etc.

Its not like she has to act the part when he's not around.

Marlon

Worst character in the movie in my opinion.

I have no problem beliving they could find someone in today's world to play his wife. That's an easy find. She didn't even show up until college.

But Marlon and Truman were friends since they were 7. They couldn't have told Marlon what was up as a 7 year old. 7 year olds can't keep secrets. They must've told him when he was old enough to make the conscious choice to keep Truman in the dark. And if they were friends since 7, but in the movie Marlon is totally in on it, then he's the biggest piece of shite in the movie outside of Truman's mom. At some point he made the decision to continue to lie to his best friend every single day.

They make it clear in the movie that Truman had never been to see her at the hospital. So as a doctor she'd work long hours and it was probably all just hanging out with crew and cast and basically living a double life. Hell she might have even left the bubble occasionally. She'd attend conferences and stuff.

I'm not sure she can do that. What if Truman tracks her like he did in the movie? Plus that dome is big as shite.

I mean, with the pedophilia and rape scandal recently coming to light, is it really that difficult to believe? It is hinted in the movie and outright stated by members of the cast and crew that Marlon had extreme drug problems very early in his life that continued to the present due to his guilt of lying to Truman. I'm thinking his parents were absolute monsters to him as well as Christoff and other producers in the show. I'm guessing Marlon's own parents were actors themselves living in the bubble and put tons of pressure on Marlon. I look at Marlon as the second biggest victim of the Truman Show behind Truman himself.

That was clearly the first time something like that had ever happened. They didn't even deviated the traffic loop he recognized until he pointed it out. He rarely, if ever, even deviated from his routine. And they'd know well in advance if he was coming home early.

Yeah, he was routine, but surely one of those days Truman would want to surprise her with flowers or something like that. You might could risk her not being in the hospital, but out of the bubble completely? Probably not too often. If she left the bubble, I'm guessing the BS excuse Truman was given is some sort of a nurse's conference.

It literally never happened. Like I said, they didn't even account for him recognizing the same exact traffic patterns outside his house every single day.

I'd assume she'd go to the occasional medical conference. Or "she's in surgery and can't be reached"

Was this really said in the movie? I don't remember that or the stuff about Marlon and drugs, but it's been a while since I've seen the movie

Yeah I suppose he was tortured and manipulated into a sad sort of complacency until he finally just gave in.

It makes you wonder if his parents on the show were even biologically related to him.

The former is more behind the scenes, but the drug problem is implied. Marlon was mentioned having been missing for months at a time due to "being sick" even at an early age. These were actually stints in rehab.

This. I don't see why this is a hard concept. Sure she's a terrible person, but there are lots of those around.

You just watched the Truman Show? Have you just been avoiding TBS for the past 15 years?

The Truman Show

One of the classics as far as I'm concerned. Blew my mind when I saw it in the theater as a teenager.

My grandmother also saw it. She was bummed out because "there wasn't a thing about Harry Truman in the whole show".

That's a good description of the movie. It wasn't enough for me to love the movie though. A guy is stuck in a reality show and is trying to escape = cool and entertaining. Add in some more depth to it and you have yourself maybe one of the best movies of all time. It had that potential, which is why I felt disappointed even though I did enjoy it.

I make a point to never watch what I believe will be a good movie for the first time on cable due to commercials and editing.
