Always thought that if The Truman Show would’ve been nominated for an Oscar had it been marketed appropriately instead of marketed as another wacky Jim Carrey comedy.

Yeah, it wasn't really funny and it also didn't really grab your emotions. It didn't know what it was other than a really cool idea that was setup well but didn't take that next step in defining itself.

It was nominated for 3: Director, Original Screenplay, and Supporting Actor (Harris).

They definitely nailed reality TV culture before it was even a thing. Hell, Kris Jenner really isn't any different that any of the supporting "family/friends" of Truman's, except she's willingly pimped every single member of her own family out for sex tapes and worse just for the sake of a "brand".

Didn't it come out in a historically strong oscar year too?
