One of those movies that I missed and never got around to.

Holy crap this was good. Wheaton and Phoenix were great, and not just by child actor standards.

Besides the legit camaraderie between the kid actors, the things that stood out to me:

1. Tight 90 minutes. I love movies that don't try to be more than they are, and this was paced about perfectly.

2. There was some pretty snazzy camerawork: Vern under the porch "framing" the story of the body, the shot of Vern dropping the comb before the train, Gordie snapping at the other boys to get their attention after he faints.

Glad I finally got around to it.

It's a great movie. Those kids could all really act and the story is fantastic.

Pinnacle of Corey Feldman's career.

River Phoenix, another actor lost at a young age.

Great movie and even better cast.

Kind of crazy how the paths turned out for the young actors.

River Phoenix was the most talented, dead at 23.

Corey Feldman, while not as talented still had a lot of promise, career and life spiraled down the drain around the time of River's death and then again when Corey Haim died.

Gordie basically stayed Gordie, nerd for life yet managed to stay in the business for 30 years.

Then you had Vern, a real aha moment when I realized who he was decades later.

Even this dude went on to have a great career in film and then tv.

I had never even heard of this movie when a friend's mom called our house asking if I wanted to go see it with them. I was blown away.

I haven't watched it in a while. I need to change that. That ending montage where he talks how everyone's lives played out is a punch in the gut.
