Yes, the music video was first aired on primetime network television.

Didn't Steven Tyler ask to do the song so he could be around his daughter?

I don't care what anyone says, I love this movie. This was my first VHS/PG13 movie I owned. I've seen this movie over a million times haha. Also my first girlfriends name was Grace so I always considered myself to be Ben Affleck.

Honestly when you think about it, training them makes some sense. They would be Mission or payload specialists, certified for flight and assigned to a shuttle crew for mission specific duties. The flight crew would be the true astronauts.
That said, these specialists in real life would not be doing EVA work

Probably the hottest she's looked in a movie unless you are into high elves.
In all seriousness, the hottest she's ever looked is in the Behind the Scenes DVDs of LOTR:FOTR.

If you don't get a little choked up when Chick's little boy goes running to him on the landing strip, then you don't have a soul.
eta: "Colonel Willie Sharp, United States Air Force, ma'am. Requesting permission to shake the hand of the daughter of the bravest man I've ever met."

Deep Impact came out right around the same time as well. Similar faulty premises, but that acting from Duvall and Co. was on point.

Love the movie and all it's horribleness
In college my fraternity was mostly engineers. So we'd play the Armageddon drinking game. Any time you saw something that was an engineering or scientific impossibility, you took a drink.
I don't think I ever made it to the end of the movie until I left college

Don't forget one of the best improv lines of all time: "the United States government just asked us to save the world. Anyone wanna say no?"

Love the scene/speech from the president when they are getting ready to take off

How about a financial impossibility? Affleck's character getting fired from an oil rig one day and having his own oil business within a couple of days' time.

Upon realizing that they'll be killing themselves to save the world, the woman astronaut says: "well look on the bright side, we will all have high school named after us."
I always liked that line.

I always wondered if they really felt any pain when they set the nukes off?
Like the wave prior to the explosion would of knocked them out before getting vaporized right?
