She was/is a cute little girl who recited calculated dialogue fearlessly. Hardly Oscar worthy. I liked the movie and all the other non-actors in it. But let's not go overboard.
ah come on man don't discredit her like that. there were several scenes (especially towards the end of the film) that were excellent acting and far from just "reciting calculated dialogue". also her father in that film (Dwight Henry) did an outstanding job as well.

Jessica Chastain carried a CIA film with a bunch of unknowns all by herself for 3 hours. She should have gotten Best Actress.
ZDT was a great film but I actually felt like Chastain was miscast. I had a hard time believing her as a CIA agent working in the middle east.

at the poster saying Jessica was basically a quiet duck the first half of the movie. She really was. I am in love with her though.
she really was. that doesn't take anything away from her performance by any means because she certainly did a damn good job in the second half, but Jason Clarke completely owned the first half of Zero Dark Thirty.

Chastain did a great job of playing a strong women without coming off as a bitch which is very hard to do. Lawrence was great too there was just a lot of good competition this year.

well said. this was a great year in film. pretty much everyone that was nominated this year in the leading category (male and female) would have been favorites to win LAST year.
last year IMO was one of the weaker years for leading actor and actress OVERALL.

I just saw it this weekend. I loved it and so did my husband, which says a lot because he normally only likes sports movies.

It was a sports movie though.

Well not really. I mean they were Eagles fans but the movie wasn't about football, it was about two mentally ill people.

I'm not discrediting her, really. I think she and her "dad" did an admirable job for amateurs (actually, as an adult, I thought his performance was more impressive in terms of real acting).

Just saw it. Great movie. Cooper was ausome. Deniro great as usual. Lawrence hot as hell

De Niro was terrific. Probably his best acting work since the early 90s.

I watched it last night. I thought it was great. It's my favorite of this year's BP nominees. But, I need to watch them all again. I haven't seen Amour, Les Mis or Life Of Pi. Amour is the only one of those I probably will see.

Jason Clarke did a damn good job in this movie and carried most of the first half of it. I don't see why you're ignoring him?
Agreed.

I thought that both Lawerence and Cooper sold their character above and beyond. Not once in the movie did I watch them and not believe they really had issues.
They could have easily ditched the issues part for the love story part of it, but never got off track.
In fact, even the love story part of it was like watching two insane asylum patients in love.

One word: quality.
Quality actors/actresses
Agree. Really enjoyed this movie.

people forget just how awesome Chastain was in ZDT.
I forgot the second I left the theater. After leaving SLP, I remember saying that it was the best movie I've seen in recent years. After leaving ZDT, I said "that was it?".
Chastain didn't carry anything. History carried that movie. She just played angry. IMO, a lot of actresses could have turned in the same performance in ZDT. I'm not sure if many could've given JL's performance in SLP.
