Is it over the top? Sure

Was it the top 100 of bad southern Hollywood accents? Not even close.

It would have been better had they cast someone from the south to play that part, I do agree.

Instead of watching Aldo Raine, we’re watching Brad Pitt try really hard to sound Southern, and failing.

Completely agree. It's not just the accent it's his actual voice too, all the grunting and vocal fry stuff like him talking about the bear jew is just annoying as hell

I say No. Otherwise he would have busted her right at the table.

I say he DID know. He was eager to turn on the SS. I think he knew that the Germans would lose the war and in turn, be hung for his crimes. He would have killed her in the cottage scene, but he was ready to get OUT by the time the Movie premiere happens.

My two cents

I though he did and thought it was made clear when he ordered milk for her. Seeing as how she grew up on a dairy farm and Landa had milk with her father before his men killed her family.

I could be reading too much into that there, but I thought that was going on there

Hugo should have shot him in the chest, might have saved some lives.

Not her father but yeah, that is what a lot of people make of it. Since he didn't know the opportunity that was about to fall into his lap, I think it was coincidental.

I do wonder what the question he couldn't remember to ask her was, but I doubt he really forgot. Letting her go twice?

You're right. He could have shot her when she was running away.

I disagree. Landa likes the hunt more than the kill. I think they could have pretty easily found Shoshana in the woods if he had wanted to, but he found it more entertaining if he could catch her later. If Landa did know that was Shoshana, I think he would have waited to turn her over directly to the high command the night of the premiere and then frick with her in front of Zoeller to Zoeller's torture and horror. Landa likes playing with his food before eating it.

However once he found out about the Basterds' plans, he knew he had much bigger fish to fry than her, so he lets her off while he gets away with all his monstrous crimes over the years.

I think his plan at the time was handing her directly over to Hitler, Goebbels, Bormann, and Goering on the premiere night and then doing something horrific to her in front of the Private that loved a Jew and had the audacity to question him in front of Landa's own superior. That's more Landa's speed.
