I appreciate your position, but you have to admit that it's a funny progression.

I have ALWAYS voted for the single most Conservative candidate in any State wide or National election since 1984, provided that person was also ELECTABLE and not named David Duke. When that person happened to promote Libertarian principles, I have been even more delighted to vote for them, having read the Austrians, Rand, Locke and Hayek while you were in diapers. I would LIKE Libertarians to prevail, I'm just telling you IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

I'm pointing out that nobody had even heard about those issues in 1988 and now politicians espousing those beliefs have infiltrated Congress

Just shut up. I must have just imagined reading all these books you have just discovered 30 years ago as an undergrad. I must have just imagined starting Hayek and Friedman threads on this board 8/9 years ago.I must have imagined following the Rothbard/WFB feud a generation ago. I must have imagined Ron Paul stumping for Ronald Reagan and vice versa.

And quit your whining. You are the guy who can't draw a distinction between my use of the phrase Establishment Conservative and your notion of Establishment Republican. FYI-they are not the same. Ron Paul has standing among one and not the other, right?

Dude, this is getting bad for you. Seriously, stop. You were wrong and multiple posters proved it and now you're melting. No need to try to defend your love of the same big-govt. mindset you disdain Lena fans for having.

Right.

Again... back away and let the thread get back on track. I'll pray for you. It's not too late for you to see the error of your ways.

No you are fricked because your generation ENTHUSIASTICALLY EMBRACES decisions made since 2008 that are even worse than decisions your parents/grandparents made before you. Put your binky in tight there, SFP and face the fact that The Lena Dunham Generation is getting precisely what they desire and exactly what they deserve. And if you think that the Ron Paul Army outweighs the Sandra Fluke Army, you are hilariously mistaken. Millennials are so smug in their hipster angst that is hard for me to see them rising above the perma- Barrista/dog-walker slot in life. So self-satisfied that you guys think you invented Libertarianism now, instead of realizing that you are actually just perfecting Statism.

And really Velvet, before you lecture me on Libertarianism, I'd suggest reading up on it and learning the history of it.Maybe start with Locke, move on to Hayek and then Rothbard. Then you won't betray your utter ignorance on those rare occasions when somebody calls your bluff. Until then, though you can just stick to insulting whomever challenges your ignorant half-baked misconceptions about that which you profess to champion, but scarcely understand. You are Faking The Funk so hard... :dope:

lulz Been there, done that. Feel free to ask questions. Stick around and I can help you; then you won't have a stroke when you see Reagan's true legacy for the first time. I noticed you couldn't dispute any of the history of your big-govt. hero.

For the sake of the movie board, please take your neoconservative baggage elsewhere so people can discuss the show. Thanks. :prayers sent:

Reminds me of HS debate and the concept of Destructive Deflection. In your case it seems to be a knee-jerk psychological reflex. You can't factually defend your position regarding your ignorance of Libertarianism or Conservatism and the numerous shades of grey therein, so you prolifically DEFLECT. Your intention is to magically invalidate my position by saying "prayers" and using a term like "neoconservative" . If you could win a debate honestly you wouldn't feel the need to attempt to invalidate my argument with diversionary tactics.

Just meet my argument head on like a Man. Or be weaselly. Your choice.

This is the best explanation of the show I've seen. I enjoyed it when I started, then found myself getting bored.. which changed to me finding most situations unrealistic.. which eventually turned to me wanting to kill everyone on the show.

I first discovered Lena Dunham on Netflix when I saw her short film "Tiny Furniture".. which was the exact same theme as Girls.

Me too. I saw Tiny Furniture and was literally horrified. I mean I am an admirer of slow developing, character-driven European films so I thought I'd give it a whirl. But wow, how unlikeable, self-absorbed, pretentious and boring can a single human be? Especially when masquerading as social commentary, you gotta give me something that I can give a shite about...when you want the lead to die in a fire but you really don't care one way or the other...

I can't believe I watched the whole thing. An hour or so of someone whining and arguing with her family.. and stomping around like a bitch because she graduated college and a job didn't land in her lap.

She's the worst. I'm a Shoshana fan bc she's semi-ironic...maybe. The others are awful.

We had HBO this weekend on dish and we watched about 3 of these directly due to this thread.

It's a pathetic show and it hits too close to home to be construed of enjoyable irony.

I am a millennial. I turned 30 this year. I don't know if it's just my region but I have no relation to these characters. If I had taken an unpaid internship out of college my parents would have cut me off too. The difference is that my parents cut me off after HS. I paid for all of my college. I hated my first job out of college. It was terrible, but I had nothing to go back to if it didn't work out. I know if times had gotten really bad, they would have taken me back in. But that would have been embarrassing at the least.

The problem I have relating with this show is that they literally don't feel they are responsible for their actions. You took an unpaid internship out of college and your life fell apart when your parents cut you off? Sounds like you didn't think that through very well.

"OMG I got an STD". No remorse for stupid decisions, just poor me. There's an easy way not to get an STD. Don't sleep around.

As to criticisms of her being unattractive and nude, I have no problems with her feeling the ability to do that, but she shouldn't get offended at people asking "why" when it's obvious she only writes herself into that role. It'd be different if she wasn't the writer but since she purposefully does it you know she does it for the controversy.

Makes me sad because I've really enjoyed 90% of HBO's original programming but the whole thing was terrible. Then I saw that she's won awards for this stuff and hate life even more.
