Well unfortunately she was kind of dead for her to help her son deal with the Gestapo. Were you too stupid to not realize the Gestapo were there freshly after hanging her?

Dead from her own poor spycraft leaving her child alone to fend for himself. It's equally stupid that the Gestapo would have left the child and Jewish girl alone instead of dragging them both away. Oh that's right, the gay Nazi officer with the heart of gold covered for them. How do you not see how stupid this film is? Yeah, I get it, it's satire. Not good satire, but it's also not playing to a bright audience.

There were members of the Nazi Party who were like Klenzendorf, specifically after Operation Valkyrie (which is when this movie takes place) since Hitler forced basically every German in any rank into the party after that. The average German in the final year of the war (as this film shows) were simply praying that the Americans and Brits would beat the Red Army to their own doorsteps since they realized they were completely fricked if the Red Army came knocking. The Brits and Americans were extremely merciful in comparison to the Soviets.

Lol. Yeah, the Nazis were famous for allowing openly gay men into the Nazi party and the SS.

From Heinrich Himmler:

In 1936, he gave a speech on the subject of homosexuality and described the murder of Ernst Rohm (which he had engineered) in these terms: “Two years ago...when it became necessary, we did not scruple to strike this plague with death, even within our own ranks.” Himmler closed with these words: “Just as we today have gone back to the ancient Germanic view on the question of marriage mixing different races, so too in our judgment of homosexuality a symptom of degeneracy which could destroy our race we must return to the guiding Nordic principle: extermination of degenerates.”

Lol, yeah they didn't know that the guy designing an outfit with a feathered helmet, leather spikes, epaulets, a cape with pink triangles, plus the boy toy assistant, was gay. He kept that all hidden for the grand finale.

This thread was surprisingly entertaining.

Love the movie. Funny and emotional. Taika is great at that shite.

Of course he did. He kept that hidden until the end from his fellow officers. You don’t think there were gay people in the German military that were pissed the frick off at the High Command and wanted to give them the middle finger at the end? Gays are actually mostly forgotten in the horrors of the Holocaust, they could just hide it and didn’t have ancestry or a religion that incriminated them and gays were expunged very early on in the Third Reich where gay people knew better than to openly express it pretty early on. Unlike you, I don’t really mind gay people giving a middle finger on the way out to your favorite Fuhrer.

Dumb dumb dumb opinions.

You know why you don’t bring your 9 year old into the resistance? To keep them safe. Nazis don’t execute Nazi youth.

quote:

How about where she was so bad at being a resistance fighter that her own ten year old child saw her planting anti-Nazi pamphlets. No wonder the Nazis hung her, she was as poor a spy as she was a mother.

Saint Alfonso has no sympathy for the hundred of resistance fighters who sucked and got murdered.

frick em.

I have never seen so much anger in a thread in a while. This is great. I wonder what Saint thinks about The Producers? Another depiction of silly Hitler.
Haven't watched the movie yet but now I have to based on the meltdown in this thread

He would have had a difficult time hiding it by flaunting it under the noses of his superiors the way he did.

Unlike you dumb fricks, I've not defended Hitler once in this thread, nor have I expressed a fondness for him. You want to see someone who has exhibited both of those things, look in the mirror. Remember, you guys are the ones defending a movie that portrays Hitler as a happy go lucky friend to wayward children.

It’s not portraying Hitler as a good guy.
The child character made up an imaginary friend version of hitler who represents all the ideals that the child has been indoctrinated to want to embody. As the movie goes on, the kid realizes that everything he has been taught is a lie and he rejects that imaginary friend Hitler By kicking him out a f$&king window. Clearly, you don’t get this weird, but heartwarming little movie AT ALL, so GTFO of this thread with your idiotic Ignorant nonsense and go watch the movie again if you want to come back. Maybe on a second viewing, it will click for you and you won’t have so many dumb takes.

By March-May 1945 (which is when this movie takes place) the Nazis had much bigger fish to fry rather than a person liked cock or not. Germans openly joked in Christmas of 1944 to be practical and buy their friends and loved ones a coffin. The big concern for the Nazis at that point is if a person would fight and die to the literal last man standing, which Captain K had proven he was willing to do. The Nazis had no such delusions that they would kill every gay person, they just wanted to kill every Jew and political dissident they could find towards the end. Even if Steven Merchant suspected Captain K was gay, he was more use to them alive rather than dead since he was by all accounts a great soldier.

You seem to be quite offended on them turning Hitler into a buffoon while also not downplaying the atrocities he is responsible for. Seriously, what are your thoughts on the Producers? Were you also pissed in Inglourious Basterds when they shot his face off?

Who was even his superior in the small town?

I’m pretty sure he was the top army guy.

So you deserve respect because of him? He gets respect but that’s not yours to take credit for. I’ve enjoyed this thread but that comment was really ignorant.

He was in a joke role. He got demoted twice and was just there to lead the local defenses, which he was very capable on that front.

My point is that this was a small last thought town he got demoted to run.

He wasn’t in Berlin flaunting his sexuality in front of Himmler or someone?
