They talk about needing to grant Palpatine emergency powers in the war and Palpatine says someone radical would have to propose that. He says Padme would do it. Jar Jar hears that and proposes it to the Senate.
They could've used a less annoying character but that was his purpose.

Yea, he was supposed to be the prequel's C-3PO. They just went too annoying and it wasn't a character fun enough to look past.

Seems so many either forgot or completely overlooked this scene. When Palpatine's advisor says "If only Senator Amidala were here" or whatever the exact line was, and Palpatine gives this exaggerated nod of agreement, then it just pans to Jar Jar "contemplating"

Problem being that “reinventing” a story or character typically breaks what was appealing about them to begin with.
There are exceptions but they tend to be like Katie Sackoff as Starbuck… still a lot of what makes the character appealing but with tits.

I honestly forgot about that, the SW fans did really go hard on him before the movie because of the clone trooper issue. I didn't have an issue with his character, and I think most didn't have much of an issue after TFA released.
Him being upset about that is fair, how his character turned out needs to be a discussion he has with Rian. Rian screwed the trilogy hard and JJ moronically took it to another Emperor ending...

The casting had nothing to do with it. The writing was some of the worst in tent pole movie history. The 20 minute segment of TRoS where they go from the space quicksand, the dagger being right where they entered the tunnel (the roof of which is space quicksand), the rando giant snake healing and the rando perfect vantage point to look at the knife thingy - might be the shittiest 20 minutes in film history.
Boyega is a decent actor. He was the only good actor in Pacific Rim 2, but the movie sucked too. But those are two huge roles for a young actor to be offered. I mean, you don't say no to a Star Wars role. It's not his fault that the movies sucked.

I just read the article. He seems to still be upset about a movie that tanked many years ago. If he was that upset about the film process, why did he not just ask to be released from it?
Fans do not care about the race of the actor. They care about character development and storyline. Darth Vader was voiced by a black actor. Lando is a beloved character bc he was fricking cool as shite. He is black.
No one cares about a character that always yells "Rey" and can somehow yield a lightsaber in a battle without having the Force. He is the ultimate race baiter and his career is stalling and wants to blame others rather this own acting.
