The actor behind ex-stormtrooper Finn railed against viewers of the sci-fi saga who can't accept diverse casting during an appearance in the new documentary Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood. "Lemme tell ya, Star Wars always had the vibe of being in the most whitest, elite space," Boyega said. "It's a franchise that's so white that a Black person existing in [it] was something."
Boyega went on to explain the inherent problems with the Star Wars films (and fans) making a big deal out of the incredibly small handful of Black characters. "You can always tell it's something when some Star Wars fans try to say, 'Well, we had Lando Calrissian and had Samuel L. Jackson!'" he said. "It's like telling me how many cookie chips are in the cookie dough. It's like, they just scattered that in there, bro!"
The They Cloned Tyrone star went on to criticize certain fans' inability to accept Black actors in leading roles. "They're okay with us playing the best friend, but once we touch their heroes, once we lead, once we trailblaze, it's like, 'Oh my God, it's just a bit too much! They're pandering!'"
Boyega has previously criticized the franchise's handling of his character, who was initially positioned as a co-lead in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, but subsequently had a less important role in The Rise of Skywalker. "What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It's not good,"

He had arguably the most interesting initial story from the first half of TFA.
I enjoyed him in TFA. Thought he was going to be the new trilogy’s Han Solo to an extent. Backstory was interesting and had potential. I even liked his wielding of the lightsaber… you could tell he had some combat skills but he ultimately got defeated.

Boyega's anger is pointed at white people because it's an easy target. He should really be upset with the Asian demographic where his character was made smaller on posters because China, South Korea, and Japan are extremely racist.
Honestly Finn was one of the more interesting characters in The Force Awakens. Writers fumbled bigly but it might have been on purpose to try and attract more Asian viewership where the sequel trilogy struggled heavily.

Agreed. TBF to Boyega, he did get a lot of shite when the very first trailer showed him in a stormtroopers outfit.
because up to that point it was understood in the lore that stormtroopers were all clones of Jango Fett
in fact, to the best of my recollection, they never explained why that stopped being the case

John,
We're really just mad at the overall story telling. It ain't about race.
Sincerely,
Star Wars fan

poor Jake Lloyd's entire life was practically ruined by the hate he received from star wars fans and i'm pretty sure he's a white male
the same fans hated Hadyen Christensen almost as much
these bullshite accusations never tell the whole story

Do these dumbasses realize black men are 6% of the populace? You get 1 for every 18-20 white dudes.
How do you know what race the storm troopers are ?

No, we can't accept woke-arse actors who insist on making everything a race-based issue.

That's garbage writing, not rayciss fans.

It's like the character of Holdo. A woman leading isn't a problem. People love Leia as a leader on the political side with Luke taking the Jedi stuff. The problem is when that character is magically Leia's best friend even though she's never mentioned, then magically leading the rebellion over Ackbar, and talking down to the "flyboy" that is single handedly killing squads of tie fighters.
It's just shitty writing and people refuse to acknowledge it.
Yep. "The Holdo Maneuver" should've been the "Ackbar Maneuver" and his sacrifice would've held significant emotional weight. I don't know that it would've redeemed that thermonuclear celluloid abortion that was Episode VIII, but it would've taken one egregious oddity out of the mix.

Well then John, how many is enough? You must have a number in mind because you’re telling me Lando and Mace weren’t enough.
Who was mad about blacks in Star Wars? Was anyone mad about Finn? Was anyone mad about Carl Weathers in Mandalorian? Asoka wasn’t black but we know it’s a black actress. Anyone pissed off?
Oh, but we get mad about gay arse space witches or a girl boss who is one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen in Obi Wan. and we’re all Hitler.
This crap is tiresome. It’s over dude. You’re not oppressed. Every damn movie I turn on has some swarthy ugly girl in the leading role. You made it man. You moved on up. Shut up and count your money.

Lando ran the floating cities. He was a boss.
He blew up the damn Death Star. He was a hero! And he was cool and everyone loved him. He didn’t sit around bitching.

A girl boss that knows the biggest secret kept from the Empire, that Anakin had a child. Oh, you're a dark side user known for deception but you say you're a good person now? better let you go so you can tell Vader and the Emperor.
The writing in Disney Star Wars in regards to the lore is complete trash. Nothing to do with racism.

He should be mad at Disney for fricking up his character instead of bitching about whitey.

All of this. After Ep. 7 there were a lot of great avenues for Finn to be great and the concept of a rouge storm trooper going through a crisis of conscience was pretty cool. Then Ep. 8 happened.
Lets be painfully honest with J Boyega. He's a pretty good actor but he is not SLJ and he sure the frick aint Billy D.

I had mostly forgotten this because of his whining and if course the way the character develops over the series, but you're right. When he was introduced I thought it was a very interesting story, because we never had any Stormtrooper back stories.
He needs to focus on Disney and not the fans. I would have enjoyed his original story getting more depth.

He’s falling into irrelevancy and gotta talk shite about Star Wars fans to get his name back out in the news

Fock off, you sad, ungrateful loser. Literally no one in the late 70's early 80's ever for a second thought like that until race hustlers & activists got bent out of shape and started grifting off of Star Wars mania.
"Almost" felt sorry for Boyega, being that his character was made a sanitation worker, and then was shrunk on the China movie poster, but I kinda don't care.
I say Fock him. Prick.

speaking of Billy Dee, didnt they bring him back in a semi-prominent role in the Rise of Skywalker almost EXCLUSIVELY as fan service? the same fans who are supposedly racist white elites who arent comfortable with minorities in Star Wars?
