If you watched Fever Pitch and the outtakes, you know Fallon is this..."like me softball guy"..."I'm gonna joke and then snicker at my own jokes...and that's basically me and I want to be Taylor Swift liked."

I used to love watching late night TV. The political circlejerk has become so damn tiring though.

Sometimes I just want to zone the frick out. Late night used to allow me people to do that.

Literally the first post, and still the best post.

I loathe the political attacks on late night. It's unwatchable. I don't even like Last Week Tonight anymore because it's constant. They are all turning in to ESPN, with a constant annoying political agenda.

Are you 12?

Do you have a real job? A wife? Kids? We actually worry about real things.

Geez. No one in the other 48 states (or who don't live on the internet or twitter) gives a shite.

A shocking number of posters here probably do think they're curing cancer and solving problems by liking hack comics deliver Left wing political rants on late night Tv.

I think people are trying to make Fallon's comments more political than they were. He told a moving story about the difficulties he was really going through as a human being, and then in the middle of about a ten-minute story said that we should prioritize little kids having health care. Hell, he didn't even mention the ACA or ACHA. He was just like, this is something we all agree is important. And it is, as a value, we all should agree that having a sick kid shouldn't automatically bankrupt a family (hell, he didn't even refer to himself, he was literally talking about OTHER people still at the hospital). That's not policy, that's just what we value as a culture.

He proposed donating the hospital, put up their website, thanked them, cried, composed himself, and then did the rest o the show. Trying to turn that into this big political statement is pretty gross. Unless you actually are in favor of sick kids, which is somehow worse.

Yeah both sides just jumped right in. I think Kimmel is generally a good dude and thought that the message of "Let's make sure we take care of our young," would make everyone kind of get along, or just find a place to agree.

Nope. Bad taste reigned.

Yeah, this is the most fun board on TD.

Plus all the posters seem to make good observations about movies.

Or I learn something new.

I will disagree but not disagree with the discussion. We all learn new things. I have found new old movies and rediscovered some because of this board.

I like this board because it is by far the most civil. I don't mind if we veer into politics occasionally, as long as it is in the context of film/TV and we keep our comments above the board. We are not going to descend into Poli Board Lord of the Flies like existence here.

We obey the Bill and Ted's rules: be excellent to one another and party on, dudes.

The late night guys are going to chase the ratings by becoming more political and Fallon is going to have to resort to impressions of Donald Trump singing Neil Young.

One of these days the networks are going to realize that there is an ever increasing demographic (which includes me) that no longer watches the late night shows due to the seemingly endless political monologues.

I'm in this crowd myself. So Fallon is the least "woke" comedian? Good for him. That makes him different in a sea full of copycat liberal screechers.

I don't want to be thinking about politics before I go to bed at night. I want to end the day on a peaceful or positive note. Aren't there people out there who are interesting, that could be interviewed about things other than politics? Do the networks think anything else is actually discussed?

What about the audience who watches late night talk shows that doesn't want to hear about politics? Sounds like Jimmy has a segment there.

Prior to Trump, that was a larger majority of the audience.

Fallon can stay the course and hope that the trend reverts back to him once Trump is gone (which could be a long wait). People thought that the switch to Leno after his Hugh Grant interview might be temporary, but that turned into a permanent trend.
