Yep, "The Situation" was clearly the draw for the shows 1st season or 2.
He and the creature called "Snooki" were the only things most people knew about who didn't watch the show.
I remember Mike supposedly making like $5 million in appearance fees while everyone else was making peanuts.
Then he became a joke and Pauly and Vinny carried the show
Yeah this is something I always found kind of sad.
Mike definitely put the show on the map, as he seemed most comfortable in front of the camera early on. Pauly, and especially Vinny, took a while to get their TV legs.
Mike and Pauly going out getting girls drove the whole first season, and I always felt when they came back Season 2 there was very clear tension and jealousy toward Mike from everyone else.
Pauly and Vinny, who was the nerdy little bro before that and kind of had a grudge against Mike for looking down on him, became best buds that next season and Mike was kind of ostracized because obviously he wasn’t going to hang with Ron.
I think that turned Mike bitter because he thought they should have appreciated him more for making the show what it was, and all the money they were making.
It was kind of a viscous cycle that kept building and in the fight with Ron in Italy you can see all the frustration just boiling over from Mike after years of feeling like they all turned on him.
It’s pretty sad, and why I was happy to see Mike get welcomed back by everyone (except Ron but WGAF). Especially Vinny being so supportive I think meant a lot to him and probably made it easier for everyone else to be so on board, because Vinny had become a big power role in the group.
Vinny seems pretty normal and happy with himself, unlike Ron, which makes it easy to let bygones be bygones and just try to support a guy that was a huge part of this phenomenon that changed all their lives.
I know a lot of this is PR for Mike, but I do think he’s generally a good guy and actually pretty insecure and just wants approval from them. The false bravado that was “The Situation” is mostly a front.
Well that’s the deepest post about Jersey Shore I think we’ll ever see
Side note, I wonder why Gionni wasn’t shown with Snooki?? They showed Roger, and since he was on the Snooki J Woww series it seems like he should have been on this. I wonder if there is some trouble there or if he wasn’t happy about her going back?
She better find that fricking ring

I enjoyed the show well enough. It's interesting to see them all "grown up." And yet still acting like idiot kids who can't control their liquor.
Pauly seems to have made it big with his Vegas gig, as well as touring all over the world. I know "big" type DJs make some SERIOUS bank worldwide, so if he is on any kind of level like that, he is rolling in dough. Hell, based on that little brief, Cribs-like glance at his place (I assume that was his house), Pauly D is living amazingly well. Dude has motorcycles all over his house and drives a Bentley (along with some other cars).
It's weird to me that none of them really seem to keep in contact with each other too much, outside of Deena and Sam (which was weird to me as well).
Also good to see Ron is still not over Sam despite living in Vegas with a kid on the way. Also, something tells me we may see Sam at some point. No idea why, just a gut feeling I guess. Plus I feel like she could definitely use the money.

Forgot to add, the fact that Pauly D brought a RealDoll and programmed it with Sam's voice/sayings is absolutely hysterical.

Yeah that was classic Pauly D.
The “I’m in a really good place” shirt really tied it all together
It wasn’t mean spirited, imo, so I thought Deena was making too big a deal of it.
Although she seemed mostly annoyed that Ron was being a dick while everyone else was just having fun with it.

Yeah, she has her own issues with Ron as well though, for all that shite with here dad or whatever.

iirc, Mike was making a bit more than everybody AND was a bit older than everyone except JWow, too

Pauly’s the oldest. Mikes a year younger I believe.

that seemed pretty contrived
to hold a big grudge against one person because they didn't call you when your dad died
if they weren't constantly in touch, i could see him not reaching out, especially if he knew her and sammy were close

Pauly is a top 10 DJ in the world and worth about $25M. Nobody else on that show is worth more than $3-4M. Mike was once taking in the most earnings but now is likely to lose everything. Deena is worth more than him currently.
I see Angelina is appearing at some point. She made some decent money after leaving the show too.
Pauly and Vinny seem like decent guys but the rest are just total trash. It’s hard to like a guido but Pauly is just hard to hate.

Everyone on the show is just extreme guido versions of people everyone knows.
The casting couldn’t have been better.

Have you ever lost a parent?
It isn’t contrived to be a little hurt that someone that claims to love you doesn’t even bother to send a text. Deena and her dad were actually really close. Pretty sure he was on the original series for an episode.
It would be one thing if they didn’t like each other and were actively at odds. But Ronnie himself said he loved her and felt bad that he didn’t reach out to her.
I think the stuff about the doll was more contrived than her being upset about that.

I figured that was scripted by the MTV writers. No way he brought the Sammie doll from Vegas on the plane

Just going to respond here and add my $.02
I think Pauly and Vinnie are genuinely good guys who happen to be guidos. Jenni seems to have matured the most out of the females, although that’s not saying much.
To say Mike is doing all this as a PR stunt is a stretch if he’s been drug, alcohol, and smoke free for 2 years +. Either is the most committed actor ever or he actually quit doing that stuff, and hes had to change certain things about himself as a result.
Ron just sucks, on all levels at everything.
Paulys “mike should’ve paid his taxes” line was great, and I laughed harder than I should have when mike referred to himself as The Designation when driving everyone home.

maybe i misheard, but i thought it was 2 months he said
either way, a person fighting those demons has no business on the show with these other lushes, but he no doubt needs the money

Nah. Pretty sure Ron actually knew deena’s dad

One telltale sign that he is in recovery, he got fat. Still drinking and a pill head? He’d still have abs. Opiates can push you through a hangover and get you to the gym.

Oh, and I still fricking loathe Vinny. Can't stand him even more now than I could in the previous iterations of the show. I know that may not be a popular feeling, but I can't stand that asshat.

No doubt. He’s puffy as hell, and honestly that’s a good sign.
For the other poster, he definitely said it had been two years sober, not two months.
